Default PawPaw Seedlings

Can anyone tell me where I can order some pawpaw seedlings? I am in Nova Scotia and I have found two places so far in Ontario, but they won't ship till after March next year. I've tried germinating them for a couple of years and not once have I had success, so I just want to buy some seedlings.

Don't matter if it's in Canada or US, I just want to buy some.

Anyone have any ideas? I've been messaging nurseries far and wide but not coming up with much luck here.

There's a very good source in Virginia, not to mention a town of the same name ...

You wouldn't know the name of the nursery, would ya? I've looked up nurseries in Paw Paw, WV and came up empty handed. Most importantly, do they ship to Canada?

I would suggest contacting Ray at Tropic to Tropic - tropica.ca - in Richmond, BC. They are not seedings but a nice size and he does have a variety of types (you are aware that you need 2 different types for fruit?). And he does ship Canada wide.....however I don't know if he is still shipping for the season (the weather out here is still good so he might be).
Fruiting Plants » Tropic to Tropic Plants
I have dealt with Ray for a few years now and he has an interesting variety of unusual trees available.

I've found that site over a year ago, messaged and had no reply. Then, coincidentally, about a month ago I emailed again, he responded within the day and asked me for my postal code to calculate a shipping cost and then nothing. I emailed exactly 6 days ago now to ask if he came up with a cost yet, and still nothing.

So that also became a dead end for me; Thanks for your suggestion though

Oh and FYI, I'm completely fine if they are 1-2ft, or 2-3ft, etc ... I just said seedlings because I want something that isn't a seed

I do know that he does tend to have issues with his email so I would suggest trying again or try calling (if you don't mind the long distance)
"(My Spam filter catches and deletes any email with commercial content. Please send only personal plain emails. If no response within 1 week please Phone 604.943.6562.)"
But I also see on his website that he lists his season from April 9th to October 1st in which case I would suggest possibly waiting until spring if you have no further luck finding someone local.

Otherwise Honey Tree Nursery in PEI lists pawpaws and I know for a fact that they do not keep their website updated so they just might have some available......can't hurt to try
Honey Tree Nursery

If you were on the west coast you could find pawpaws in just about every garden center as they seem to be the "in" tree this year.

Yah I see the West always has everything haha .. Thanks for the info on that PEI nursery. Although the site says they are n/a at the moment, it doesn't seem like a site that would be frequently updated, but I could be wrong, so I just emailed asking them.

Thanks again!

Burnt Ridge has some very econo pp seedlings. Don't know their Canada situation. But I sorta doubt they would ship this late. The normal time to do the transplanting out is spring to late spring, or even all summer, but not dormancy like normal trees. Like magnolia (same family).

I have yet to find any US nursery that will ship direct to Canada - none will supply the phyto-certifcate required to get the plants across the border.......and unfortunately a pawpaw can not be passed off as a houseplant and driven across.

I just figured I could pot it and transplant in spring. I know from some reading that they are very picky plants when it comes to transplanting, but that was my plan.

So pmurphy, you're basically saying I should stick with trying to find a Canadian supplier eh? If that's the case, it looks like I am waiting till the spring regardless then, because I already talked to a couple different people that said they won't ship till spring.

Have you tried Green Barn Nursery?
Paw Paw (seedling)
Their website says they are taking orders for the fall - "trees available from mid October to December 1st" and they do ship across Canada - expect BC due to government regs
Good luck!
