Default Nules Clementines in Dallas, TX

Hello banana experts,

I come to you in need of clementine advice. I live in TX, and no one seems to ship nules clementine trees to TX. I have literally spent hours looking. Maybe I suck at finding information, but I have a hunch it's impossible to get the tree I want. TX has citrus laws so no citrus for me?

I would be happy with a little baby nules clementine, but I cannot even find that.

Thank in advance for any and all advice,

Kevin

No, we can't get citrus legally from out of state. You'll have to find someone in state. If you have any good friends at your local nursery they might be able to order it for you. Just a thought.

Basically any state that has a commercial citrus crop will not allow any citrus to be shipped from out of state. There are too many citrus diseases and the potential cost of bringing in one of those diseases is just too great. Sad, since there is not commercial citrus crop in the Dallas area, but the state is just so big you get tied up along with all regions in your state. If I were you I'd find someone into citrus in a state that can access Nules Clementines and have them shipped in. Yes, it is breaking the law, but really, it would not be a threat to any commercial citrus. You might even be able to have it shipped to a non-citrus producing state (ie. Kansas, Iowa, etc.) to one of your relatives or friends and then have them ship it to you.

I feel your pain. I live in Florida and there are several varieties I want and can't have. The Nules Clementine I can get.

They do not come true from seed. I think you would be happier with Gold Nugget, but either plant can be ordered from here: Dwarf Mandarin - Four Winds Growers

Citrus can be legally shipped into Texas provided the grower is a participant in the USDA ACP program.

Richard,

Thank you for your response and valuable information and link! Are you telling me that Four Winds will ship to TX?

Also, how do I become a member in USDA ACP?

Thanks, I really like oranges I guess...

From there online store

We ship citrus trees throughout the US except for Arizona, Texas and Florida. Customers from those states can order non-tree Citrus Related Items here.

The USDA ACP program is for wholesale growers and resale nurseries. Four Winds is a participant, but as Tony (sunfish) determined, they apparently do not want the additional cost and preparation of shipping to restricted areas.

According to Julian W. Sauls, a horticulturist at the Texas A&M University System, "all citrus trees planted in Texas must have been propagated in Texas from Texas-grown plant materials, i.e., it is illegal under Texas statutes to import citrus trees, seedlings, plants, budwood or graftwood from any other state or country."

Kevin, I just wanted to tell you that I saw several Clementine's today at Lowe's. They are $84 plus tax I think about a 10 gallon pot size. Last week they had all citrus 50% off though it is not this week. But I wanted to let you know if this Lowe's has them your local Lowe's can get them. You will probably have to talk to the nursery manager, the ones down here bend over backwards for me. Just wanted to let you know!

Kevin, I do not know the age of the tree, but two weeks ago it was full of ripening oranges, and this week all the oranges had been picked off. Some of the peels were in the pot. I think the employees had snacks all last week.
