For Sale
FS - Hedychium coronarium - White Butterfly Ginger The exact clump photographed is yours for $15 including shipping! The third picture is another clump that has open blooms, thats not the one for sale, but its here so you can see what it looks like when the blooms open. They're beautiful and smell like Gardenia to give you an idea of the wonderful smell. Just tug on the base of the flower and they come right off the plant nice and clean Thats a frisbee next to them to give you an idea of the size. |

What a great deal on a great plant. If I didn't already have them, I'd jump on it. You're right. Especially if the breeze is blowing across them toward you, the aroma is over whelming. ![]()

Hey D&T,
I believe they are hardy 7a (0f - 5f). I have some I plant in the ground and then dig back up and pot for the winter. I didn't get blooms, but started them from rhizomes in june.

Re: FS - Hedychium coronarium - White Butterfly Ginger
I grow them here in Z6, N.E. Oklahoma. I'll throw a 6" pile of leaves over them till spring. After pulling them off and the sun warms up the soil around them, they grow & multiply like crazy. They out due any I winter over in pots every time. I tried wintering some in the ground without mulch twice and none survived. A little mulch goes a long way.

Thanks for the info TonyO... I think I may have to leave some in the ground next year!
I haven't really tried leaving mine inside all year, but they do ok for my in a pot near a window during the winter. They didn't grow a lot, but didn't water them much either. Maybe someone else can help you out a little more. I also have Hedychium 'ayo' that get's the same treatment.

I'm in South Florida so I dont have to worry about the cold, I leave it outside all year 'round. I dont know much about its requirements up north, or how it fares indoors, etc. Google is your friend, though!

My Hedychium Luna Moth, which looks pretty much identical to Jarred's plant there has been inside for 3 weeks now and is finally blooming like crazy! The fragrance of the flowers is really intense indoors with little air circulation!
Hopefully it will survive 6 months indoors! ~Joe |
