2015-06 Namwa count contest!!

My Namwa is now sporting a bud. Perhaps it took its cue from the Pisang Ceylon? The pstem height is 10.5 feet and the base diameter is about 10.5 inches.

Guess the correct total number of fruit fingers that form and win a free 5-lb bag of Fruit Fuel -- including free shipping to USPS locations. If no one guesses the correct number then the closest guess wins. If there are two "closest" guesses, then two prizes will be awarded. Only one guess per person, and no duplicate guesses please.

Reply to this thread to place your guess.

Here are the official contest rules (PLEASE READ):
http://www.bananas.org/f211/rules-co...ting-2959.html
Good luck to all!

Re: 2015-06 Namwa count contest!!

But again if Richard has been pumping up the nutrients
on that Namwa esp with that fertilizer hes been promoting
plus seaweed and fish emulsion plus hugging and peeing....

All of you are TOAST!!!!!

I found this post by Jared
back in May of 07 on a Pitogo thread...

I just went out today and put liquid fish and liquid seaweed at the base of my blooming plant.

I keep the hose nearby and water it throughout the day (its burning hot here at times).

Leave the pups on it for now, don't kill any roots.
Some growers like to top off the pups (you know, like behead them) to restrict their growth at this point but I can't bring myself to do that with mine!

Leave any green leaves on the plant, don't cut off any dying leaves that still have moisture or green in them.

You can also cut back any old dry parts of the pseudostem to reveal the green chlorophyll behind. This will obviously assist with additional energy production, too.
But only cut off totally dry material, leave the part where it's not dessicated yet.

Pad the mat with old leaves and compost.. it does a few things including retaining moisture by blocking the drying winds and sun, it adds nutrients, and block weeds from making the nutrient rich mat their new home.

Give it a hug every day.

And pat yourself on the back for all the patience and hard work.

>>>Some of these classic posts are sooo full of priceless information for newbies like me. They really need to be resurrected<<<
Cheers!

It would be good if Richard can confirm if hes been using
the PGR growth hormone stimulant on this baby.
Rather on just the count, we should also have a blue ribbon
for the heaviest bunch/fullest by weight!

If they have fishing competitions on TV from different lakes
and different times, why cant we have it here also?

Richard its time to showcase your PGR product and the results!!!

WoW!
Really its over?
Thats it?

You still have unopened flower there.
Why stop @11hands?
Is it because you have 50% less fingers in hand#11 vs 10?

Are you going to let it mature on the tree?

Thanx!

The 1st 10 hands contain all female flowers (fruit fingers).
The 11th hand contains 9 female flowers and 7 male flowers.
The 12 hand contains 16 male flowers.
All the rest will be male, and thus the fruit count is 169.

To a point; e.g., when a finger or two turns yellow. Then I'll cut off the rachis and hang it up in the garage for further ripening.

Namwah need to be watched closely when getting ripe. Their skins have a tendency to split.

I didnt know that.
No higher amounts of your Grow More Stimulant nor manure
will increase the number of fingers higher?

What can you do to increase the fill/plumpness...water?

Thanx!:bananas_b

Splitting is due to excess water during ripening?
What causes that extra plumpness
causing it to split open?

Thanx

The volume of the harvest is determined by several factors. I do not know of any approach to increase the production after the plant produces a bud.

I'm hoping you meant "nutrients", not manure. The latter has a fixed set of properties that are only a fair match to the nutrient profile of fruiting bananas.

They will plump out based on nutrients available in the roots and a continued source of water.

It is due to properties of the skin in the Namwa cultivar.

Re: 2015-06 Namwa count contest!!

Thank you for the info!

BTW manure I meant nutrients.
I keep forgeting that GM Stimulant is a growth hormone.
Did you apply the GM Stimulant only after the bloom appeared or consistantly and throughout the growing phase of the plant as well?

You didnt use (Grow More Stimulant) the product

I saw this on a thread you posted in Nov' 09...

When I make soil for myself I currently use:

2 buckets fine-grained humic compost (cooked and sifted greenery waste).
1 bucket Perlite (or Scoria -- for 20+ gallon tubs and long-term plantings).
1 bucket Horticultural Sand (this is 1/8 to 1/4 inch grain size).
1 bucket Sphagnum Peat Moss.
1 bucket Worm Castings.

Each bucket is 5 gallons and I use a clean cement mixer to mix it. The end cost is about $2 per cubic foot.

Re-read the thread on Grow More Stimulant. It is a foliar product for agricultural crops raised with negligible nutrient inputs.

Yes, when I make a soil for containers. What I do for bananas in the ground is detailed here.
