Re: Your favorite Dwarf?
I tried the Dwarf Cavendish in Bermuda and they were very tastey, so I got a couple of them last year but they froze back to the ground and are just starting to come back at the present time. I don't think they are very cold hardy. I also have a Super Dwarf Cavendish and it's doing very good at the moment and did well duing the winter, it should fruit this year.

Re: Your favorite Dwarf?
Hey Greg, good to hear about the Dwarf Namwah, I was hoping they were cold hardy as I have 2 on their way here from South Florida. I am in zone 9 also. I also hear they produce one of the tastiest fruit. I can't hardly wait.

Re: Your favorite Dwarf?
Dwarf Namwah!
It was the first to be green after winter, it provides large bunches, and its a fast grower. |

Re: Your favorite Dwarf?
I'll go with 'California Gold'. The fruit I got off of mine last year was very tasty. Unfortunately, my 'Dw. Brazilian' fruit never had time to develop.

Re: Your favorite Dwarf?
I guess for an overall favorite I would side with Jon "pitangadiego" and say: The one that is currently ripe!
Otherwise, you'll have to start being more specific. If we talk about ones that are cool-hardy, that will narrow it down to about five. In terms of production, there are 3-4 cool-hardy ones worth having. If we talk about flavors, there are about 5 distinct ones which all have their merits -- especially depending on personally taste preferences.

Re: Your favorite Dwarf?
The Dwarf Cavendish known as the Double or Twins, AKA Mahoi. Dwarf Namwa is really a good one also.

Re: Your favorite Dwarf?
My favorite aspect about SDC was that it continuously shot up new pups. I got to share it with several people last summer.
It's the banana that keeps on giving. Even though it doesn't fruit easily here, it makes a nice container plant. Last edited by musaboru : 03-29-2011 at 01:24 AM. |
