![]() I have managed to germinate a couple of these bananas and one of them has a slight variegation on one of the leaves. Will this grow out as it gets bigger and how big will it get . I can't seem to find any info on this species.
I will try to put a picture in my gallery

![]() Thanks guys. I can't remember where the seeds came from as I buy them from all over the place and I don't keep records (maybe I should start ) .
I am expecting it to grow out as the new leaf shows no sign of variegation. Big dog I havn't seen a V. lasiocarpa I will have to keep my eye out for one even though there,s not much chance of that in the uk. In the mean time I will have to make do with my Ae aes and basjoo .I have just lost my V dwarf namwah pearl. Do you have any variegated bananas in the states that are easy to get at all or are they just as rare as over here ? Mark

![]() Mark, I thought you were referring to Musella lasiocarpa in your title. What species of banana are you talking about?
Variegates are just as rare here as over there. The variegated Dwarf Namwah 'Pearl' has become readily obtainable, and AeAe can be found frequently, but others are very scarce. |

![]() Bigdog The seeds that I have were just called yellow forest banana . I know that name is sometimes given to the lasiocarpa but these were sold as a new variety so I went a head and bought them. I do hope they are not the same as the lasio as its a waste of money and time germinating them.
I am hoping to swap one of my baby Ae Aes for a variegated Rajapuri tomorrow. So thats another one to add to the variegated list. How many types of variegated bananas do you have ?

After reading your post, I found this site that has photos of Variegated M. Basjoo! http://www.pbase.com/theukoasis/bananas Don't know if this has been discussed before in this forum, but until now, I've never heard of it. The other sites that had photos of M. basjoo shows the flowers to be very similar to the Yellow "forest banana", though the outer side of the Yellow forest banana is a lot more red than the M. basjoo. The M basjoo is mostly green ranging from light green to dark green, some with red coloration. |

![]() Hi Mark, have you compared your yellow forest banana with M.basjoo? I’m intrigued as to what the yellow forest banana could be, have you tested it to see if its hardy!!

![]() Thanks Mark, the picture of the yellow forest banana flower on nature products does look like a basjoo flower, but then again so does the flower on Musa formosana,
What ever you have it’s a rare plant because nature products will not sell seeds anymore, so it would be nice to try and find out what this unidentified banana is. ![]() Cheers Tony |

![]() Thanks Mark the one Differentiating factor that separates basjoo from most Musa’s from china is the fact it doesn’t have that grey powder on the new emerging leaf stalks, if YF has that grey powder on it!! then I’m probably barking up the wrong tree or words to that effect.
