Wish me good luck
Hello folks,
I'm going to the Dominican Republic soon and I will try to collect some local musa species there. I hope to get some nice ones. I would love to have the local ' rulo ' ( very tasty ) and the classic platano type. Any more advise on 'must have' types that i could encounter there? thank you very much ! ![]() |

Rosados, aka Cuban or Jamaican Reds, would be on my wishlist as well, if I were you. I'd also look out for the Nino or Orito type tiny-fruit bananas.

Sounds like fun. I haven't left state side since 1990. Perhaps one day in near future I will head back to South America for some fun.
Have fun. aaron |

Sadly - he will be just about as far away from me as it is possible to get on this big island (6.5 hrs drive in each direction) , but I have given him some pointers and as his wife is Dominicana he should be able to get what he wants. Guineo rojo and rulo pequeno should set him on the right path - other names will be useless unfortunately.

Hey Palmpje - don't eat rulo as vegetables - get them ripe to the softness stage and eat them fresh - the best eating banana ever but the Dominicans don't do that! enjoy your stay!
