Default Winter banana surprise

Hello ya’ll,

While I was cleaning out my flower beds over the weekend, I was surprised by a banana bunch. Yep. Out of the blue - boom. Bananas. I was not expecting this. I had pretty much written the grove off for the winter. I did nothing to winterize at all. However, it has been somewhat mild here. Hope they do ok. As you can see, the only green on the plant is the p’stem. We shall see. I think the are M. basjoo. The p'stems get between 12-15 feet.

This is what I saw when I looked up.

These are closer shots of the bananas.

Just thought I would share. Enjoy.
Looking forward to a good season.

Kenzie, neat pictures! Nice-looking bunch too, considering that there are no green leaves. It is definitely not musa basjoo though. M. basjoo has a greenish-yellow flower, with just a hint of violet, and no wax on the pseudostems. Here's a couple of images of musa basjoo at UT Gardens in Knoxville, TN last Fall:

they don't look remotely like M. basjoo. the inflorescence are not green or yellowish. Could be plantain type edible banana. Consider yourself "gifted".

ya definetly not Musa basjoo or any other wild type, its definetly edible. Looks like a dead ringer for Musa 'Orinoco'.
