Will these TCs ever make something of themselves?
Newbie here, first timer so please bear with my ignorance....
After a disaster at first planting my little TC dudes on a North facing patio in full sun and watching as they shriveled and went into major shock and 1 even shriveled to resemble a weak asparagus stick ( he died), after a week I finally took these to the south facing patio where another batch of TCs started thriving. It has been about two weeks now, the leaves they came with are withered and cut off, but the main stem hasnt withered and died and I still have some green on the main stem... Feeling the main stem it feels pretty strong on a few of these. Question: Will these dudes make it? How should I be caring for them? |

If I was you, I would take the TCs out of these big pots and put them in much smaller pots with some very good draining soil. I've never put TCs directly into the ground, but have put them in pots way too big for them too early in and they always seemed to rot out

Hi, I'm new as well and had the same issue as you. I put them in a small pot with good drainage and watered every few says so not to some them. Give them light and water and after about a month they should be happy. If it wasn't for my stupidity in fertilizing too soon they would be going gang busters. I think mine will survive as should yours.

Note that new banana plants from tissue culture should be progressed from shade to sun as they gain strength and size.

Re: Will these TCs ever make something of themselves?
Thanks Richard. Somehow I missed your site two weeks ago when I needed it most. Tc's mailed from florida didn't like my Texas full sun. As u can see in the pics above they didn't quite like it. Any tips for these guys?

Morning sun only.
Slow down on the water. Check the soil moisture level from the holes in the bottom of the pots. Drink two beers and text me tomorrow. |
Re: Will these TCs ever make something of themselves?
Just what Richard said. Morning sun , light on the water. Ramp up slowly as you see progress. I like to use super thrive in my water at this stage.
Most important !!! The 2 beer thing, maybe even 3 |

Re: Will these TCs ever make something of themselves?
Really Appreciate everyone's posts. this is some valuable info. fyi.. Got my TCs at Greenearth Co in Melbourne FL.
Question: I have some hibiscus fertilizer 18-5-23 I am thinking about applying to some of my real good TCs that are growing good once they take hold and have 4-5 new leaves....? What do you think of that ratio 18--5-23 ? Again, I am a newbie and trying to learn the art down here in D/FW, so discussion is really appreciated. |

Re: Will these TCs ever make something of themselves?
That fertilizer sounds fine. However, before you go ape banana with it, try it out on just one plant. There is nothing worse than bringing home a new product and having bad results. I always do a 30 day test on one of my sacrificial basjoo's so I don't mess up all my naners. Basjoo's around here are about as common as a dog turd
