![]() I have an Orinoco pstem under my house dormant that is about 10 feet, and I am hoping to get it to fruit. Last year I grew it in partial shade and it did very well, but I am wanting to plant it in full sun this year. Will Orinoco leaves burn in full sun on days where the temps get to be around 103F? We have a few of these days every summer here (strangely last year we did not get above 97), but our humidity is usually pretty high.

![]() In my experience, they will get sunburn but nothing major. Here in South Texas, we usually hit around 105+ in July and August months. We are close to the Gulf coast, so humidity is pretty high during these times. My Orinocos are shade just in the morning and get hit by sun's rays for about 8 or 9 hours in the summer time. I do notice some damage here and there but it still continues to grow. I haven't gotten fruit yet. I am in the same boat as you, mine is about 8/9 feet tall and it should fruit this year. Best of luck.

![]() All of my plants, are in full Phoenix sun (up to 118 in July) after the first summer I don't get burn as long as I keep their feet wet (they droop like a wet noodle mid afternoon though, but perk back up in the evening).

![]() Humidity is more of an issue than temp. Low humidity makes it hard to take up enough water when it is hot.

![]() Mine are on a hot deck 130-+ at pot level and the tops are what the ambient temp is... And they seem to be OK.
But they also experience the Late afternoon droop.....just like the other fellas said. Which seems to be about normal... I had fruit....last year THREE FINGERS.....From A plant that was 6 years old that was potted up to a 25 gallon container in the spring......Accurate guess. If you keep them HOBBLED in a small container they will only PUP Profusely and not bloom......In my zone/situation. I have been doing this for years.......and selling them to the peeps in the garden clubs. My Orinocos are the most cool tolerant plant I have...for those who want to grow these plants....in containers in doors.......this is a must have starter plant.
