Default Wierd weather in So CA

We are having some very strange weather right now, and I think my banana plants are enjoying it! It's been very humid for one thing. With cloud cover and occasional - very light - showers. Even over last weekend when it was 100+, the unusual humidity seemed to keep the plants happy. Of course I was out there misting them, and encouraging them.

I got my DH to actually help in the yard by getting up on a ladder and cutting down the first Orinoco's to bloom last year. (November) They are ripening in the garage and doing well. They took the brunt of a big frost, so I'm waiting to see how they are.

It was 96 here yesterday at 4:00 pm and very humid. We had a strong wind that came through that felt really hot like a Santa Ana but it was still humid and blowing in from the ocean.

We had nothing but century marks on our thermometers the past week. Some of my banana leaves have sunburnt, but the taste of my Beauty plums went dramatically good upon ripening, as good as taste test winners. Before the heat wave they tasted like gatorade, now the flavor's fully loaded, nice balance of sweet and acid juices.

Today, it's cooler but we have patchy thunderstorms.

Wow, it's been that hot up north?!

It's going to be a scorcher here today. It's already 97 at 11:00. I like heat, but too many days over 100 is a little extreme.

San Diego was been upper 80s and low 90s at my place for close to a week. Last night from 3 pm to about midnite we had a warm desert wind blow in under the tropical air, and shoved the temp up to a record 96 at the airport around 6 pm.

80 to 90 deg F would be perfect temperature for maximum growth rate of bananas.
