Why won't my Icecream Fruit?

I've had my banana for three years and I preserve the stem in the garage every winter but it has yet to bloom?
What am I doing wrong, I Do great with bananas but I cannot get fruit!

How big do Icecreams have to get in order to fruit? How many years?

For me it's one of slowest to fruit. From a good size pup two years. The Goldfinger for me is one of the quickest about 15 months.

In the near-tropics it takes 10-12 months. In your location, each time the soil and/or the night-time temperature is drops below near-tropic conditions for a significant amount of time, growth will slow. Then when the temperatures return it will take the plant hours or weeks to resume regular production of life functions in the corm. Consequently, you are only getting 3 to 4 net months of growth per year.

Ditto, Richard. It is not calendar months, but actually growing months that matter. Dormant times (slow or no active growth) don't really count toward time to flowering. In San Diego, we get 7, maybe 8 months of the year. Winter cold also seems to deplete resources and initial warm growing time is "wasted" getting "back up to speed" in the Spring. On the bright side, you don't have bugs the size f chihuahuas like they would in Panama,

a bit off topic, but i'm in my 6th year living south of the Tropic of Cancer in Southern Mexico, and...what a difference there is in the slightly cooler months, in terms of growth...

all my stem-cuttings take longer...my bananas do ok, but other things go into a quasi dormancy, even in the tropics!

and, it is also the dry season...but for those many plants and trees i irrigate, they slow down...

hang in there folk...you are doing almost impossible things growing nanners in the most inappropriate places!

People say Ice cream bananas are fast growing, but mine is pretty slow. I mean it grows at about the same rate as my Dwarf Cavendish which an average speed. They have to be a pretty large size to fruit so I guess yours hasnt gotten there quite yet. Mine is not even as tall as me yet so I know I wont be getting fruit from mine this year.

Okay I was looking at the new Ice Cream leaf today and noticed that it has a white patch of Variegation, is this a virus or something? Or is it just some random slight variegation.

mine took four years the first time, so maybe you'll have a bloom this fall. Mine also blooms in the fall.
