Default Why does this happen?

My zebrinia banana is doing something weird. The leaf tried to unroll too early (not choking) and so it ripped and the bottom of the leaf stayed curled up around the newly emerging cigar leaf. It didn't want to unwrap on its own, and was basically strangling the new cigar leaf and caused it to stop growing for a week or so before I went in to do some surgery. Anyone know why this happens? Maybe underwatering? This plant has been particularly dry the last few weeks.

Feb 6, Right after leaf ripped.

Feb 11, Jammed right up now, going in with the knife.

My Pisang Klotek did that once because I had over - fertilized it.

I get that problem off and on all the time, I think more after we have heavy rain after a week of no rain. It generally just fixes itself, but you can try to unroll the more mature leaf carefully without busting the new cigar. I just let them be mostly, and can only reach some anyway.

Ya im sure if it was outside and growing very fast the new cigar would have basically blown it apart and grew fine but since it takes about 3 weeks per leaf right now inside and is a pretty delicate plant so I didnt want to take too many chances. This is one of the plants under my grow lights and dries out the fastest of all the plants under there so it goes a while being completely dry sometimes if I just wait and water everything at once. So you are probably right Rob, I had probably just watered it well and so the sudden growth after this probably caused this traffic jam. Problem doesn't seem like its happening anymore.
