when is a good time to separate the pups
Hi,
I was so excited when I saw a couple of pups form my banana tree. I had kept the tree indoors (I live in New Jersey, US) for the last 10 years or so and only this June I put the tree outside. Wihin a couple of months I see 2 pups - see picture attached. However they are very close to the mother and I am wondering when would be a good time to separate them. Also since cold is approaching I probably have a coupe of months that I can keep them outside. Appreciate the advice. Thanks |

Hi Riyengar. I can't recall if it was Randy's Tropicals or IV Tropicals or who on Youtube, but someone there said you need to wait till at least the third leaf before attempting to remove a pup. If you are able to gently remove the soil around it, and you see a few good roots, I'd say your ready to remove one. This is the helpful IV Tropicals video I was thinking of:
