Default When do California plants start flowering?

I bought a dwarf Cavendish about 3 years ago. The first year I assumed the plant died. Much to my surprise a new one popped up about 6 months to a year later. That plant is still alive and has been alive for about a year or so. However, I now have about 4 pups, one of which is about half the size of the older plant. I'm not sure what to do - are both the older plant and bigger pup on different schedules if the older plant is, well, older? At what point will I know the older plant is going to bear fruit or not? I'm trying to figure out if the older plant is a dud, or if I should keep waiting. If I should keep waiting, when would the tree start flowering. I live in Southern California.

Because of our seasons bananas tend to flower mostly in the spring and fall, some during the summer, and rarely in winter. Rule of thumb: banana plant should flower approx 2-1/2 years after its appearance as a pup. Underwatering and underfertilizing will delay this process.

Bananas need 9 to 12 months of warm growing days to produce fruit depending on variety. Temps below mid 50° 's causes the plant to go dormant and extend the growing time needed. ... Then there is the strong possibility of the pstem freezing while fruit is forming killing the pstem & growing point.
