![]() So I have had fruit on my GoldFinger now since July
I applied Freeze Proof but still I wonder how long before I can cut the fruit stalk and put it in a 5 gallon bucket of water to finish out. Any suggestions would be great, and yes all the fruit are still green. |

![]() Chris - can't help you much - but are the fingers round and plump - or still a bit angular? What are your day and night temps like at the moment?

![]() Some times I cut one hand or just a few bananas off and let them ripen.
That leaves the main bunch on the plant to mature further if necessary and spreads the harvest over a month or more.

![]() If they look pretty plump I'd say you should be able to go ahead and cut the entire stalk and it should ripen. However, as Scott pointed out, if you arent' in danger of a damaging frost then if you can just cut a few at a time you won't have to eat so many bananas at once. If you cut the entire stalk, they will all ripen more or less within a week or so of each other and you may have more bananas than you care to eat at once.

![]() Probably a good idea to start cutting off the topmost hands as Brent and Scott suggested, so that they can ripen indoors while you wait for the rest to do their thing. What they said about the frost is good advice too!
