what's growing with your bananas ?
I'm not so concerned with everyday growers, more the guys throwing napalm on the nanners.
I'm tempted to throw canna lily's & horsetail in the mix. Any test reports with straight urea / potash ???

Re: what's growing with your bananas ?
Try pineapples.
If you're in the Florida peninsula where the soils have an abundance of phosphate and calcium, then you could give it a try with urea and a potash source. I would choose Sul-Po-Mag for the latter because the plants need a source of magnesium. Here's my dosage recommendation for your test. Water the plants normally but once per month dope the plants with 1 gram water-soluble Urea 46-0-0 3.25 grams water-soluble Sul-Po-Mag 0-0-22 + 22% Sulfur, 11% Magnesium FOR each gallon of irrigation water.

Re: what's growing with your bananas ?
I used to grow canna lillys under / around the banana, but didn't really like the mess they made after flowering. I grow hybiscus around them now, I like the combo of green leaves and vibrant flowers. The lilies never seemed that happy around the bananas, but the hybiscus do well.

Re: what's growing with your bananas ?
Around my Naners I grow, canna Lilly, Pine apples, bromeliad's, heliconia's, elephant ears, Dutchman's pipe vine, Milk Weed, Firebush, Fire spike and LOTS of weeds!
I have not killed anything due to any fertilizer I have used in the past. The Heliconia's I can tell you are taller then many others I have seen and real nice big flowers. I have seen bigger flowers but I love these guys. I am considering growing Green Beans or Snap Peas up the banana plants. Last edited by Worm_Farmer : 04-24-2015 at 06:27 PM. |
