Unfortunately, my Aeae is pushing out a flower bud in the beginning of December. It's probably no more than 5' of p-stem, and there's close to no chance of this flower making it to maturity:

9B... Why wouldn't it, except for an odd freeze... Anyway, congrats. It should make it... I have had my 3640 just finish flowering and went to males yesterday. Here she is. Just in time for an early cold snap... 56 fingers on 6 hands.

Varieties I supposedly bought: Manzano, Cavendish, Blue Java, Sweetheart, and Gros Michel.
What it seems I actually have: Brazilian, Cavendish, Namwah, Dwarf Red, Gros Michel, Pisang Ceylon, Veinte Cohol and SH 3640, and American Goldfinger. FHIA 1, Paggi and FHIA 17... Always room for one more.

meizzwang,

Woohoo!....Regardless, Congrats!.....Hopefully does make it!.....You don't see an AEAE flowering/blooming everyday, frequently, comparing to other 'Nana varieties!....Thanks for sharing/posting the info/pictures....Please keep updating!...

I lost my blooming AEAE during very bad girl, hurricane Irma, but second AEAE crop it's growing fast now!....Approx. 8 ft. tall right now, growing nicely!....

Awesome accomplishment!.....

Thank you!

What's interesting is that 9b in Northern California is completely different from 9b in Florida: we're talking temperate climate versus subtropical. We rarely see days over 70F during the winter here in Northern California, whereas in Florida zone 9b, it seems common to have many days over 70F during the winter. The light frost seems to be less harmful to developing bananas compared to long exposure to cold weather, even if it's above freezing.

Last year, all banana bunches that bloomed during the summer survived the long winter cold period, but bunches that formed late october and later didn't make it. It'll be interesting to see what happens this year, will report back. There's some bunches that bloomed this year in August, mid October, and now there's the Aeae as well as a Dwarf Brazilian bud forming now!

It is nine o'clock, And that i am sitting down ahead of the significant fireplace in my library, where the pine knots are fast turning into ashes. Why don't you? Certainly, Why don't you see the Outdated Year out and The brand new Year in? I'll pile more knots around the embers, and, leaning back again in my chair, will see how The 2 years are mortised jointly. Why should really I not help to appear right after these items, for I've experienced approximately eighty of these years, and every one of these chock stuffed with presents and goodness? I will have nothing to accomplish Together with the doleful dolts, who depend their difficulties and find out only what is missing. Tonight I shall see God tinkering in the joints in the years. Have you any notion what number of years are locked alongside one another in a single of such pine knots?

Happy New Year 2018
