Tony, wow, that's a pretty one. Love the red and yellow on the female flowers. What variety?

Re: What's blooming in your garden? (bananas)
The winter winds were harsh on the 3 AeAe mats, but new growth had emerged
Hello?!? Almost... There Now you might be thinking to yourself that "wow, that's an unimpressive bunch of AeAes" and from a variegation standpoint I would agree. The idea that AeAes leaves revert to mostly green in basic, clay soils is indeed correct in my experience. I've started amending with coffee grounds, bbq and fireplace ash, and other organics which has brought out more variegation in the small to medium size pups. Upside is that all that extra chlorophyll seems to have helped their growth, these things are beasts... almost touch the power lines. I just hope my bananas are stripey. |

Re: What's blooming in your garden? (bananas)
Hi!
Yesterday I got photos from the brother of my guest daughter, he took photos in my yard in Brazil. Two Musa ‘Nanica’ are now flowering and fruits for the first time! Musa ‘Nanica’ with fruits at the side of the pond, it does fruit because of the higher groundwater level there! Closer view of the fruits. Musa ‘Nanica’ with inmature fruits in the group near of the vegetable garden of my housekeeper. Late July or August I will harvest. The secret of the success despite of the sandy soil is much horse manure, much water and half shadow! Closer view of the inflorescence. I also planted heliconias and Musa velutina in November, they are now grown on. Best wishes Basjoofriend |
