Default What is your Favorite

From the bananas that you grew last year, what is your favorite? Your favorite tree. At first Siam Ruby was by far my favorite because of the colorful foliage, each leaf being unique. But now I think that the Black Thai has won out and is my favorite because of the black trunk. It's so eye-catching and so different. So what do you think? You have a favorite?

Is black thai the same as balbisiana (or am I just confusing something). Never had one but they always looked beautiful. My favorite from the past year has to be ensete glaucum. Fast grower, awesome waxy white stem and upright growth-habit.

My favorite is dwarf cavendish because it is the only cultivar that I have been able to fruit thus far. I have TT, SDC, DC, DN, Gros Michel, zebrina, orinoco, and ice cream (I hope).

I don't want to pin favorites on my bananas, they're all my babies, but I will give a huge thumbs-up to my "Ice cream" (pretty sure it's a Namwah) - After the mother went through several nights of unprotected 20-something degree cold weather last winter, then finally died to the ground, and sprouted up a new pup after receiving no water whatsoever until May when I dug the corm up, found out it was still alive, then plopped it back in and patiently began watering it, and after a lot of summer heat and not enough water, now this fall the new pup at such a small young age being bitten by frost, then pulled up with its stump of a mother corm still attached, brought indoors to grow, and sprouting a brand new leaf.

It's a tough plant that has gone through a lot, haha! From the original mother's previous summer pampering then torturous neglection through winter to the new pup's torturous summer neglection and winter pampering.

The Morado is my favorite, I can't even imagine that there's a better tasting banana cultivar.

For looks, Rose.

For speed (fast growth and production), "Not Cardaba" from Jon.

For ability to shrug off tough conditions and produce abundantly, Dwarf Namwah.

For taste, Mysore/Pisang Klotek (though I relied on the generosity of others to taste those).

LilRaverBoi, I don't know the answer to your question. I've read that the Black Thai is aka balbisiana then in another article it states that "The Black Thai is a selection of Musa balbisiana." I would understand from that that the Black Thai is a selected seedling. So, it's the same or it's closely related.

Illia, I understand what you're saying. I grow hundreds of daylilies and picking a favorite is impossible. Whatever is blooming that day is my favorite(s).

I don't grow the AeAe either; however, I've had two people promise me one but then they get from me what they want and then disappear. Well, maybe it will still happen because one person that promised me one is still around. I just hope that person hasn't forgotten. I can help you out on the Siam Ruby if they make it through the winter. I left them in the ground. By spring I should some pups to share because Siam Ruby is generous with pups. Maybe a trade for cannas. We'll talk. PM me if you're interested.

I'm really liking the tall and dwarf Namwah at the moment not so much my experience with them but others results. I get the most compliments on my Saba.

My favorite is whatever is cranking out something ready to snack on, today it's the "notso dwarf" orinoco, one of which are starting to turn yellow, (spiffy trick in these temps!)

No, probably not for a while yet. I got it mid-summer as a small seedling and it now has about 3.5 feet of pseudostem. I'm pretty excited for the eventuality of the bloom though....they are really cool-looking.

It sounds like you are asking in terms of look of the plant. If so, I'd say my A'ea'e and Red Iholena are tops in how beautiful they are. Sucrier, Hua Moa, & Dwarf Red are also quite beautiful.
