I have never been able to keep M. beccarii (var. beccarii) alive and seem to always have difficulty with pure M. mannii.

....trial and error LOL

most bananas have to be cut down after the first hard freeze. hardier types like sikkimensis and basjoo i just remove the crowns. i mulch for the winter and most come back by spring. velutina reseeds to the point of weediness!

i can tell you that cavendish, roho/zebrina are marginally hardy. 'royal red, beccarii, ele ele, and tuugia dont seem to be hardy at all.
