Default What Should I Do? New to Bananas

Hello all. New to the forum and new to growing anything.

Read all the basics about bananas and growing, but now would like some personalized advice and thoughts.

I moved into my house about 6 months ago on Oahu, zone 12b I think. I've always lived in northern climates before.

Anyway, I noticed the house had two banana trees in the yard. I read that bananas only fruit once so I figured that's that and I'll just have pretty trees to look at.

A couple months ago I noticed a bunch of pups growing, and they've just kept at it. There are now 8 of them, the shortest is about 6 inches and the tallest about 45 inches to the top of the newest leaf twisting out the top.

I don't know what kind of bananas these are or anything. If you were me, what would you do? Separate the biggest pup and plant it a foot or two away and cut most of the others? Just let it grow as is and see what happens?

I'm a renter so I don't think I can or should cut down either of the two bigger ones, but if that is a good way forward I can approach the landlord.

And please, I've never grown anything in my life so please speak to me like I'm 5

I'm going to try to figure out how to post photos here so I can show the situation.

Forgive the ignorance, are you saying if I just leave everything to grow that the pups could eventually fruit without being separated from the parent?

Separating the pups if you have a lot of space will help you to grow more bananas though. Typically we save three per mat.
