What kind of pups are these?

These pups emerged from my basjoo in late July. They keep putting out these VERY skinny leaves and are taking forever to gain height. What are these???

In this pic you can see one of them is even red? Why?

Looks like my orinoco is doing the same thing, although the leaves seem to be getting bigger, but the growth is STILL slow!!!

Thanks!!!

They are called sword suckers those are supposed to be the best pups you can get from your plant...

Check out this thread it has a lot of info and pictures it will explain what they are a lot better than i can...

They may be growing slow because of the weather changing....My sword pups that came up later in the year are growing real fast and have caught up with the pups i saved from last year.

Re: What kind of pups are these?

Yup...definitely 'sword suckers.' This basically means that they have a root system that coincides with the main plant. They are the fastest growing pups once separated from the main plant (when large enough). Water suckers are the other option, which have more rounded leaves and grow slower. Water suckers have their own root system. Sword suckers are the typical pups you see on most plants.

They look super healthy, though....so no worries!
