what have i done to this poor plant please help!!
okay i need some help i should have asked earlier. so i got this Blue Java banana plant from Fastgrowingtrees.com and it was in excellent shape as far as i could see not knowing anything it just looked healthy. but since ive got my hands on it, it has drastically changed But i havent given up on it yet.
so when i got it i replanted it in a bigger pot maybe a 10 or 15 gallon? not sure but its pretty big, and the soil was miracle grow moisture control. i was trying to look at the forum when i was buying the potting soil but it was difficult to do from my cell phone and i didnt know what to get but shortly after i realized it was not that!! I researched more here at work and saw that i had planted it in like the worst soil i could and i went out the next day to get a better soil mixture and re plant it again. By now the plant had drooped significantly and i somewhat understood why. oh yeah shortly after i repotted it the first time i left to get my girlfriend some chocolate milk and the little dog dug it up and there was dirt everywhere and she destroyed all those little micro roots at least the ones on the outsides of the plant but there are still plenty of roots to keep the plant alive so i have hope but i believe it stressed the plant out a lot. when i got my new soil mixture i decided to follow one that i saw someone else do here i dont remember who or where i read it but i went with 1/4 promix potting soil, 1/4 perlite, 1/4 organic cedar mulch, 1/4 peat moss, and i replanted it into a smaller pot more like the one it came in to concentrate the roots and stuff. its kind of stopped the drooping but its also at a point where i dont know how it could get much worse really. and then i gave it a good watering and it has drained pretty quickly but i still think it is holding too much water so maybe i shouldnt have put in the peat moss. I put it outside one day cause here its about 78F and 65 ish percent humidity so i thought the plant would like that. i had also clipped the leaves to promote growth for the plant as a whole insead of the leaves. it was a little bit windy outside even though i put it in a corner to hopefully block off some of the wind and i left for a few hours. but when i came home it looked like the leaf stems werent sturdy enough and they had just been bending back and forth in the wind for a while (facepalm) it left a lot of bruising on the kinks in the stems there. Now ive got miracle grow and mixed it as a foiler spray for it to help stop some of the yellowing and decay on the leaves, also should i cut out the brown dead parts of the leaves or leave them the way they are ?? i spray the leaves every 3 days with the foiler spray and i spray with water 4x a day to keep it going cause i read i was supposed to do that here since it is inside and not very humid since the ac is on. the ac is set to 70 but is a room away from the plant so i think it being in front of the window it is probably about 75 ish over there. Now im leaving it inside the house in front of a big window facing south and it gets a little bit of direct sunlight and mostly ambient light throughout the day. The soil is still a little bit more moisture retaining than i would like but i think for now im just going to let it be for a bit and water less often because i was doing too much at first in my excitement. but what can i do to help my plant at this point?? im still optimistic i havent given up yet!! Re: what have i done to this poor plant please help!!
Hi there.. so Im no expert, but I had a dog dig up and play with a plant that I bought from a forum member here. It looked pretty bad, and stopped growing for a few weeks. After I found it in the yard, I potted it up, watered, and left it outside in the shade. It returned to health and is growing again. I also made the mistake of taking brand new tissue cultures and planting them in the ground, in full sun.. they looked dead, but after I potted them up and moved to the shade, they all recovered. What im getting at here, is bananas are pretty hardy. Again, im not expert, but I would make sure it was in well draining soil, in shade or partial shade outdoors.. id keep the soil moist, but let it dry out an inch or 2 deep before watering again. I also think I would stop the foliar fertilizer spray until the plant shows some recovery. If you must spray something on it, I would use a weak dilution of fish emulsion at most. Best of luck.. its had a rough start but if you leave it alone a bit, it will prob work its self out.

Stop overthinking and overdoing. Put it outside, keep it damp, not soggy, do not repot it, quit disturbing the roots, don't trim anything off that is green, and be patient.

Re: what have i done to this poor plant please help!!
The damaged leaf is probably a response to stress. That is a trailing indicator, meaning it is telling you what conditions were like a week or two ago. If the most recent leaf is normal, that means things are getting back to normal.
Some amount of benign neglect is often good in bananas. Just let them work it out.
