What to do with my other Ice Cream?

So I have another Ice Cream in a container that I'm eventually going to plant. I live in zone 10a in Southern California, but the windy season is going to start soon (uh oh!

). Would I get away with planting it now? Will the roots have enough time to establish themselves so it doesn't get blown over or suffer from root rot in the winter? Or should I just leave it in a container and wait until next season. Help would be greatly appreciated!

I pretty much have the same conditions as you,heavy clay soil,zone 10.The more hardy bananas grow right through winter.So you can plant it now if you want but leaving it in a container till spring won't hurt anything.

I'll probably plant it now since I have the chance. The 5 gallon it's in right now is way too small, and it's been suffering a bit from the small container. I do have a 25 gallon pot, though. I have plenty of space in my yard so I guess I'll just plant it.

I recently had 20 - 30 mph winds when a TD came through and it blew over a 15' P-stem that had been planted and growing since July 4, 2010. Fortunately it only listed about 45 degrees and I think I can push it back up. My point is that even a established well rooted one can be blown over. It was even protected by a six foot fence and a large Oak tree for a windbreak. Plant it and if it goes over just redo it.

I know that we have lots of Santa Ana winds here, and these winds have been known to blow over small trees. I know for a fact that wind can be a huge problem for banana plants. But the good news is that Ice Creams have been shown to withstand winds of up to 50 mph. They're small enough right now that they probably won't even need to be supported. I'll get it planted and see what happens.
