What to do about the hurricane?

So . . . those of you in hurricane-prone areas, do you have any advice to share? I'm just west of Houston so we'll get (according to current predictions) tropical storm but not actual hurricane-force winds. And lots and lots and lots of rain. I'm expecting my nana leaves to get shredded but for most of the plants to survive--does that seem right?
One specific question: today would be the day my African Red started blooming, and the first hand is showing. So excited, but my mom suggested that I wrap it and I'm worried about that making it top-heavy. Not to mention that I wouldn't know how to do that and make it hurricane-proof.
Any suggestions?

Your leaves will soon look like this...
Shredding is a plants way to reduce wind resistance.

i am right here with you, in Montgomery just north of Houston. My plants including bananas have been through this before, there will probably be a lot of rain wide spread flooding, some wind, our nanners will have shredded leaves. Probably not a hole lot you can do except continue to pray we all come out ok. Beautiful plant by the way, that is 1 variety i don't have, maybe we can trade a pup sometime.

i hope your african red makes it unharmed,

Darla

to all friends and family in Texas and Louisiana. I hope and pray you are safe. my wifes family are south of Houston and east of San Antonio. and pukpukz is located at the mouth of the Mississippi. right now he is getting hammered. and that thing is supposed to sit for a week. again my thoughts are with you all.

Don't forget poor Ty and his jungle there East of Houston. It looks like he will get a lot of rain and I hope little wind. I hope all in the area remain safe, and if your bananas make it ok, that's great, too. We barely missed a cat 4 last October with Matthew, so I understand the worry.
