Some recent plantings and a few updates.

Dwarf Ducasse (Kluai Namwa Khom)

Blue Java. Whats the milk bottle doing there you may ask. I fill it with water and a little hole to drip during heat of the day. These TC seedlings are small.

Goldfinger

Update on Pisang Ceylan

Update on Ele Ele or Pacific Plantain?

Dwarf Cavendish

Ladyfinger

Watch this space for emerging Red Dacca (Tall Red)

Planted a Gold something today. The seller could not remember if it was Goldfinger or Golden Pillow. I bought both previously from Aloha Tropicals. One is a Namwah, the other is 1000 fingers, and I figure I'll be able to tell which Gold it is since they are quite different. No pictures as it's just a sword sucker with a fat corm.

Haven't quite planted it yet but today I purchased a Mai'a 'Upehupehu, a Hawaiian Iholena type which is very rare. It's in the Kepler & Rust book on bananas in Hawaii. From the Greenwell Ethnobotanical Garden in Captain Cook, HI. I'm sort of on a mission to get any rare Hawaiian variety I can, since I'm in a BBTV free area (as far as I know) where they have a good chance of surviving.

What's different about 'Upehupehu is that the fruit are more round like a maoli type, so they look quite different. Supposed to be a good dual purpose banana that tastes like other Iholenas.

The only Iholena I've fruited is "Red Iholene" which is a mutation of Iholena Lele. It was pretty good tasting that I can recall.

Planted my tallest Namwah from a wee little 5 gallon pot to the freedom of the outdoors. Yes it's still mildly frosty on occasion this time of year but I've got protection and it really needed a better home.

What took you so long? Going Bananas has been selling them for years. At least, from what I can tell, it's the real FHIA-02, Mona Lisa.

I went there also. I was the 7th person through the door. Was looking for a giant Plantain then for some unknown reason I wondered off ending up at the Dragon plants where I got one of them and some fertilizer..

haha, That's what I was thinking. But, then again, sometimes I seem to look all over for varieties and forget that Going Bananas has them. Cheaper too.

I couldnt bring myself to pay $20 plus shipping or driving 180 miles. If I could get him to reply to.e-mail it would be different. I am competition so I am sure I get treated differently

Nick, I figured you had a good reason, I was just curious to know what is was.

Good luck with the FHIA-02. You seem to do well with all of them, so I'll be interested to see what you think of this one. It has been a slow grower for me, but that's true of all the varieties that I grow that have only A genes. They seem to need more warmth to thrive than my climate provides.

Yes, NK Lago Farms is my farm and it's mostly for fruit but i am expanding the nursery side of things. But, its hard to beat $15 for a 3 gallon plant, unless of course you are buying suckers from me. I have tried before to get fhia 21 AND FHIA 23 from Don and I get no response. I might use a straw buyer to see if i could get a different answer.

It took over a month for them to email me back. That's not good customer service. I'm not their competition.
