Thank you for the kind words Kylie, that was very nice of you. The plants that you sent are growing great and surrounded by Rabbit traps ! I really want to do this to those pesky things :2190: :2190: :2190: ! I really love my Boxers but I'm thinking of trading them in for a pack of Beagles . ( not in a million years !)
This is the story of how a Banana saved my life today . I'm excited , my Siam Rubys came in today from Stokes ! Wee-Hoo !! I had ordered them almost a month ago from PDN but they wouldn't ship because of the heat. Being a little slow, it took me that long to finally cancel the order and get them from Stokes instead. I should have got them from there in the first place as it's just down the interstate from here and the shipping would be easier on the plants. It's just that I was browsing the PDN site and was overwhelmed by plant-lust when I saw the Siam Ruby ( especially at $35 ). So like a little kid at Christmas, I didn't sleep a wink last night and ended up sleeping in a lawn chair on the carport, waiting for the UPS man to show up. That guy is a burglar in his spare time, he's the only person who can approach my house without my dogs going nuts, plus he has a bad habit of leaving stuff on my steps without knocking or anything. No way were my Ruby Babies going to sit in that hot box on the steps for even a second ! So I put my feet up ,got as comfortable as possible and settled in to wait at 7:30 a/m . The UPS guy never comes before 2 p/m but I wanted to be ready in case maybe today was different .....In all the excitement I forgot to eat all day. ( I wear an insulin pump)So the Rubies finally show up at about 2:30. I mixed the media for the Rubys and ended up not liking it, too much peat, so I made up a new batch. In the meantime, I'm sweating like a pig( it was Africa hot outside) and very dizzy(as usual on the dizziness). I suffer from very ,very, bad Vertigo. On good days I only fall five or six times. Anyway, I excuse the dizziness and sweating as that. I finally get the Rubys planted just right and now it's starting to get dark and everything looks like someone is playing with the light switch. I know what that means! I ripped off the insulin pump and ran(stumbled) into the house. I grabbed a bunch of Bananas and a jar of honey off of the counter on my way to the ground. Lucky for me I got a Banana and a good swig of honey down before I went out. I woke up later with a splitting headache ,and Scooby licking my face. The other two dogs were lying beside me,guarding me. So ,what's the first thing I did when I got up ? I went to go check on the Rubies of course ! LOL! And that's my story of how a Banana saved my life today ! |

Glad to hear you're ok. I have to almost force my wife to eat honey when she's low. I figure it's the fastest because it's already been digested and it goes into her bloodstream instantly.
I planted up the pups you sent as soon as they arrived on Friday (Lasiocarpa, Royal Red, Velutina, and Red Iholene). Thanks again! They are looking good so far. I couldn't post then, but figgered better late than never... So that's what I planted today...If today just happens to be last Friday >;^) |

Today I planted Williams Hybrid, Manzano, Red Iholena, and Double (Mahoi). I've planted about a dozen of the plants in my profile in the past two weeks. I'm potting most of these and will put them in the ground next spring. Unless I change my mind.
On the non-banana front I've planted some hibiscus bought from John in NY and some chayote. I plan on getting some ginger also and maybe some bamboo. Harvey Last edited by harveyc : 08-31-2007 at 11:17 AM. |

Nobody else doing any planting???
Okay, it's just after midnight and I just finished planting 5 plants I picked up from pintangadiego (Jon) at Joe Real's house earlier tonight. They included (1) Musa 'Ebun Musak', (2) Musa 'Kandarian', (3) Musa 'Lakatan', (4) Musa 'Monthan', and (5) Musa 'San Jose'. As mentioned in another thread posted in the afternoon, I also planted a Musa 'Ae Ae' today! ![]() Cheers! Harvey |

Ok, no bananas, but I did plant timber bamboo (in containers), and Hawiian Ti plants (one red and one green) my cousin brought me from Hawaii...sorry, no Hawaiian bananas...
(he was afraid of the massive fine for illegal export of agriculture). |

Okay, I'm probably the first fiend in IBS history to acquire two Ae Ae pups from different sources in one month. I'm not too sure my first small pup will make it and I wanted to increase my chances of making it through this winter. Stokes did a fantastic job of packing this pup and it has a nice root system. I didn't feel right crowding these royal roots into a 5 gallon pot so I put it up in a "15 gallon" pot. It's so pretty that I even think it won my wife's and son's approval (and my son has been calling me "weird" lately). LOL

OMGosh Harvey! I hope both of your Ae-Ae's will come through for you! They really are such beautiful plants.
In my dreams someday I will have one... ![]() People seldom call me "wierd" (about the bananas, at least) anymore. LOL! Now they just say "uh,huh", nod their heads, and roll their eyes. ![]() |
