Today I planted these two Señorita pups. I've been working a long time to get them and have several people on a waiting list for pups from me when/if I get them, so no requests, please. Heck, they'll probably die on me if I start making promises!

Hey, Tony, if you can guaranty 9-10 pups each like you're getting on your Cal Gold, I'd send them both to you and just drive down there a few times a year to talk to them real nice! LOL

Patty, nice corms don't need roots as they'll grow right back. It's easier to ship without and to make sure they are free of pests, etc.

Tony, I'll keep you posted. One is committed to someone else if both survive and I owe him for other favors. Maybe I'll grow the other one until this fall and bring it down there for a snowbird vacation!

I got this Hawaiian Apple banana from Mitchel last fall. It was a big fat pup but the shoot choked on me, but it sent out a new shoot. I kept it in my greenhouse over the winter and moved it outside a couple of months ago. I amended the native soil with some old cow manure. I'm waiting for this to grow up big like the one I saw at Mitchel's place.

Thanks again, Mitchel!

Nice BIG leaves!
What do you mean "it choked on me" ? Did it die but send a pup out?
Sorry for my ignorance

Sorry for my ignorance
I don't know if this term is used by others or not. Normally, "choke" is used when the flower is unable to emerge from the top of the pseudostem but it will sometimes emerge from the side. Sometimes I get a pup and the existing shoot dries up some and gets stiff, making it hard for the new leaves to merge. Sometimes it will emerge from the side of the pseudostem just like the flower will in the above use of the term. In this case, and in some others, the original shoot just withers away and a new shoot (or pup) emerges.

Today I placed 2 liter soda bottles (bottoms cut off and screw tops removed) over my two Senorita pups and the Veinte Cohol pup to help keep the existing top from drying out and getting stiff. I've trimmed off the tip of the Veinte Cohol twice. I think it will put out new leaf growth very soon.

Sorry for using some confusing language.

By the way, here's a picture of the pup's momma taken by Mitchel. The psuedostem had a circumference of 51"!!! Do you notice any similarities???

Oh yeah, I did read about "choking", but I thought it was only the flower & nanas that got choked inside. I think it said Raja Puri is prone to this.
I think my pup is choking...the nice healthy misi luki I won from Mitchel. The tip turned brown & a leaf will NOT push thru. It split at the base from growing. I too snipped about a inch off the top so maybe a leaf will come out.
51 inch p stem...WOW!

Today I planted at Musa balbisiana var. liukiuensis I bought from BigDog. I got outbid by a couple of members (Andrew won) but Frank kindly agreed to sell one to me at the winning price also. There's no bids yet on his plant at [Auction] Musa balbisiana var. liukiuensis...HUGE pup! - Bananas.org. Mine surprised me with the mass of roots on a young plant. Makes me wonder if it will take over the entire banana garden!

What does "stepped up" mean? Moved into larger pots?

Yes, stepped up mean move into a larger pot. It is a common term among growers in Florida.
