![]() The pups from my Siam Ruby are almost gone. I have been miserly in watering inside as overwatering seems to be the kiss of death during overwintering. But the plants are just leaning over and giving up the ghost. I'll keep the pot in case the corm is OK for spring. Damn, they were so pretty.

![]() Tammy, sorry to hear that. My wife lived through a housefire as a kid and is to this day a stickler for any detail regarding potential fire. I'm sure we can get you some plants when you're ready. Glad you got you're pets out. I couldn't imagine losing mine.
Howard and Sam, it's wierd , my Siam Ruby's have gone through more water than any of my other plants although they lost their color. They aren't the fastest growers on the porch but have grown steadily and even added a bright green pup on one. I can only guess that since I got them soon after joining the org. that I may have given them the most ammendment(orchid chips, sand, perlite) and then became a bit thriftier as I quickly built my collection. |

![]() Tammy I'm glad your animals were saved, I pray that your life will gain "normalcy" quickly. May God grant you peace in this time of trouble.
Today I found and killed a few more of our local invasive exotic Brazilian pepper, shinus terebinthifolia. I also posted a few pictures of whats blooming. ![]() Last edited by Caloosamusa : 02-25-2009 at 07:27 PM. |

![]() Well I have to admit failure on this plant so far even though I've tried to kill him several ways. I germinated an Ensette Ventricosum in less than two weeks. He popped up and looked so good I named him "Spike." He was growing so fast I decided to change his name to "Speedy." That nice big leaf came out and I thought that maybe "Leif" would be a good name. I had a dome over him and I guess the humidity caused a case of the white fuzzies and it looked like "Crash" was most appropiate. I dug him up and dipped his roots in fungicide and potted him up in straight perlite but he kept crashing. So anyhow "Looser" was looking so bad I just hated looking at him and had thought of adding him to the compost pile. He started putting out a little sprial leaf. I thought no way he'd pull though this but "Comeback Kid" added another leaf, small and deformed. "Tiny" put out another bigger leaf and another. Wow, I gave him a little water soluable fertlizer to help him along. "Spots" has nice nitrogen burns on all 4 leaves. Oh well I repotted him up tonight and I hope to rename him soon.

![]() Well I just check on the naners i have in the back of the garage, and it looks like the Dwarf Nino and 1 of the bajsoo's didn't make it. They were mush down to the soil line. ( they are in pots) I cut them down and I'll just wait to see if the corm survives...OH well thats why we experiment with different options.

![]() ![]() Not really, just a little annoyed. I spend time actually having to do exotic control, since many invasives do so well here. What are the invasive exotics in other areas? Best wishes ![]() |

![]() Hey Stumpy - don't give up on them! I have had them go to mush to the soil-line, but 2 months later with nothing visible above ground, they sent up a pup. Just when I was about to dig them up to investigate, but glad I waited. So hang on and keep them dryish.

![]() Thanks Cassie, I'll keep them and set the pots out when it warms up. I'll give them a month or so and if not I'm sure I'll have other pups who would love to rent the pot.

![]() Yesterday, I noticed that the leaves of my Washington Navel Orange tree have many small holes so I found out after looking closely it has many small snails attacking the leaves.
Boy, have I enjoyed smashing them with my feet! So every 4 hours or so I keep inspecting and I keep still finding a few of them. Do I enjoyed it? You bet I am!
