Raja Puri! So my Raja Puri fruit decided to ripen yellow when was away for a week… after 5+ months of waiting and I wasn’t there when I needed to be! When I cut the stalk down half the bananas fell off they were so ripe. About 7 hands. However, they are all fantastic and get better by the day; a sweet and tangy flavor as described. I planted in late Feb. last year, flowered in late September. Pro’s: grows and produces fast, lots of pups, a short 7 feet, nice tasting fruit, was easy to grow. Cons: took longer to ripen that expected in zone 10; ratty looking rachis (or is it considered the peduncle?) [IMG][/IMG]

Only 6 months?! No joke, my Rajapuri takes 10-12 months to ripen in my climate.

Joy Re: What did you harvest today (bananas)

Okay, sorry for the long radio silence. Early last September I went in for a routine mammogram and came out with a diagnosis of invasive cancer. Tottering home in shock, I glanced up at my Gros Michels and saw Thing One had made me a flower to cheer me up. [IMG][/IMG]
Doing banana math (since the previous three GM productions had taken 9 months apiece) I figured I would have bananas about the time I finished with all the necessary evils. It truly gave me something to look forward to.

Today, after too many surgeries, 6 rounds of chemo and 5 weeks of radiation (one more to go) the sudden 80+ degree weather started turning some of the nanas yellow so down they came. It was tricky because the GMs are sandwiched between my Dwarf Brazilian, my Becky's Mystery (yes, Mark, probably the same variety which is why they are side by side for comparison) and my Panache figs. [IMG][/IMG]

As Richard instructed almost three years ago, my husband sawed halfway through the pseudostem and then we struggled to get the supports out. Of course, the whole thing came crashing down but did manage to (narrowly) miss the Dwarf Brazilian, only knocking off one leaf. And here are the bouncing baby bananas! [IMG][/IMG]

Thank you bananas.org for making this all possible!

Ronni, I'm impressed with your banana growing skills, but even more so by your resilience! Best of luck on your road to recovery!

And, praying everything is working in your favor for full recovery.

Thanks, Mark and Edwmax. At least bananas don't require social distancing!

Not yet. I put it in the ground just about a year ago. The plant looks very healthy, but this was a pretty cold winter so I'm content to wait until it's ready. The Becky's Mystery went in beside it a few months later.

Just cut down a 33 lb bunch of SH3640. Always has produced heavy big bunches. Just hung it in the house to ripen. The wife, 3 dogs and I will eat as much as we can stand and the rest goes to the neighbors.

I'm glad this one does so well for you. I really like the taste. It is slow grower and not big producer for me, but I look forward to the fruit I get from it.

I wonder if anyone in California has results more like bananimal's in FL. Any California growers of this variety out there?

Hi, that's my first post here, I get to read quite a bit here, but sometimes I can't
connect with your server?? Maybe my super fast 1GB fiber connection is shooting to fast at your server.
Anyway. I just harvested my first Bananas ever and feeling exited, so I wanted to share it here.
I think it is a Dwarf Cavendish, not sure.
Now I have to figure out how I post pictures here, let's see I might get it done.

Time to Harvest these Pitogos? A few are fully yellow, but I've seen other Pitogo bunches harvested when they appear to be darker yellow with heavy stitching. I feel the top bananas need more time to round/fill out more as well...
