You're bound to have differing opinions on this one. I've had good experience with Going Bananas, nice people there. banana-tree.com is in Easton Pa , close and reliable. Green earth is good I think they're banana- plant.com but you can google it or someone here will know it. Stokestropicals is good as well. Good luck.

I just placed an order with "Edible Landscaping Online" they have the SDC on sale for $8 in a quart pot. It's my first order with them so I'm not able to comment on the quality.

Okay, I just did a quick bit of research for those two varieties based on the sites I have bookmarked. I would say Northern Tropics will be the cheapest, but I'm not entirely sure what their shipping is, or if they have a minimum order. Another site that has good deals on those varieties is Green Earth. You can get both plants, plus shipping for $31. The main advantage of Green Earth over Northern Tropics is that you will receive 14" plants rather than 5" plants. Just something to think about if you want to get growing fast. I've purchased a few plants from GE and they have great prices and reliable service.

Hope that helps out!

I just purchased and recieved 1 SDC and 1 Ice Cream from GreenEarth (banana-plants.com) and both were 12" or better and very healthy and got both for around 27 bucks with shipping. Check out my pics (i believe i uploaded them) of them the day I recieved and potted them. Logees has a decent reputation. But, they are on the pricey end. I purchased a Mahoi and a Dwarf Lady Finger the same day as the SDC and IC and still haven't recieved the plants and the cost was around 53 buck with shipping for those.

Everything is all based upon user preference and experiences, so far, my preference is to GreenEarth at the moment.

Good Luck!

You can't go wrong with Martha's-Plants-Trees on eBay. I bought my very first nanners from her. Reasonable prices, expert packaging, and fast shipping.

I spend all my loot on naners with both. But they do more than banana's!

OK Sandy & Martha i'm ready for spokesperson salary nnow. J/K

Quality plants no troubles A++

Damn, really? I got screwed on shipping....TOTALLY not Green Earth's fault though (I realize that and therefore, still recommend them highly). USPS just hosed me. I ordered on Sat. so that they would for sure go out Mon....and I didn't receive them till Mon. It was pretty cold all weekend even (20 degrees or so), I was anxious and worried all week and even hassled the mail workers a bit (not really, I was very polite, actually) to see if they came to my local post office that weekend even....nothing. Priority mail is basically the typical method of banana shipment...I just got unlucky...typical, really. LOL.

Despite all that, my 'naners arrived very healthy and not damaged in any way. Despite all my frustration and anxiety, I was very satisfied.

Just wanted to say I have ordered from Greenearth. Good price, fast shipment, healthy plants. But I did not get what I ordered. The plants came with a small label on the pot but when they grew up they were not what I ordered. I called ted and sent pictures and he Identified them confirming
what I thought. Now I am fine with that because they grew into very nice plants. I would recommend them maybe It was just a fluke Greenearth "Apple" Identified as Dwarf Red

This is difficult to answer since it depends on what you're looking for and what sort of budget you have. Since you're in a colder climate, you might want to start off with a large plant if it's in your budget. Jon ("pitangadiego") runs Encanto Farms Nursery in San Diego and has many large plants. I bought some 5 gallon plants when I was there in June 2008 and some gave pups within a month or so. Shipping for larger plants would be higher, but it might be worth it for you. Look at the bottom of ENCANTO FARMS NURSERY Available plants. Also, I am quite sure you'll know for sure what you're getting when you buy a plant from Jon as these are all from plants he's been growing himself for some time.

Apologies if this is "bringing the tone down", but I have had quite a bit of success buying plants on .................................................. Ebay.

Yes, I did say Ebay. Not quite sure what it is like over in the USA but Ebay (UK) has had some good listings.

A couple of years back I bought 20 (TWENTY) Basjoo pups for £12.00 (about $18.00) including P&P. Unfortunately took them to Spain and lost every single one due to the coldest Christmas (plants totally unprotected) in 22 years.

Sorry,
Meant to add onto the last post.

If anyone is from the South (United Kingdom) there is a fantasic nursery called "Architectural Plants" which is about 20 mins drive from Brighton. Worth going there just for a look around (plant prices vary from about £5.00 to about £5,000.00 - take cheque book!!!)
