Very nice Tony. Are they all in the ground? I have been trying to get as many of mine in as possible. It has started to get a little cool here so I only have a few weeks left to plant.

Thanks for sharing!

It is so cold sensitive, I figured I would get it thru the winter in the garage again and then plant the main stem inground in the spring. I put one of my RP pups inground in July--already it is amazing how much bigger it is than the 2 that are in pots.

Hi, Joachim, son of a gun, what are you doing there in my country?
You made me jealous of you. You have so many types of bananas, even the Musa Basjoo, Sakhalin, that's incredible !
I'm growing bananas too, here in Mie, Japan. I tried to grow: banana prata, ouro, banana da terra, banana pao, maca, nanica, etc., but they all didn't resist our cold climate. In the first winter, they were all gone. The varieties I have here which can stand the frost and the snow is the Musa Basjoo, Musa Liukiuensis, Lady finger from Okinawa and the Raja puri from India. Be Careful with the Sigatokas. I wish you the best.
It's nice to know you.

I had to leave my big collection behind in the jungle, so I'm now only growing the following in an altitude-challenge experiment.

Musa 'Gros Michel' (original strain)
Musa 'Orito'
Musa 'Lakatan'
Musa 'Chunchi Huasi'

Thats quite a list!
Just read your Tuu ghia taste report
and your mysore from 2012.
I really enjoy reading your taste reports.
Youre like the Anthony Bordain of naners!

Im sure your top 10 list has changed since
youve planted more varieties in your farm.
Whats your top 5 from the list you just posted?

Thanks again!

Without the benefit of being able to taste them one after another and compare, I'd guess my favorites are Dwarf Brazilian, Gros Michel, Mysore, Tu'u Ghia and either Goldfinger or Mona Lisa. Nang Phaya was exceptional that I remember, but it's been 3 years since I've tried it. That, Namwah, FHIA-03, and maybe praying hands round out my top 10 as out of hand ripe bananas. Cooking bananas I think of separately and don't have enough experience with but I enjoy any Maoli types, Praying Hands, Hua Moa. Actual plantains I'm working on growing but the few I've had in Hawaii have been good.

Im surprised you didnt mention sucrier as top 5.
After your taste report it made me wanna get 1 also.
Servastuprime I think recommended the kandrian
but its not on your list...why?
The kandrians was compared to the seqouia tree
of naners and tasty fruit as well.

Thanx.

Kandrian I've never tried and never heard of it being available where I live until recently. I'm 2nd on the list to get from a friend. I've also been hesitant to get massive bananas because my space is limited and I try not to block the ocean view from neighbors up the hill from me. It's why I haven't bothered with Sabas or the larger Reds. But now that I have more space on a lot that won't block views I'm open to Kandrian.

Sucrier is good, but not amazingly so. Didn't realize until I made that list that it's not in my top 10. In general I prefer ones that aren't purely sweet, with Gros Michel and Tu'u Ghia being the excellent exceptions so far.
