We've gone BANANAS!! (7-27-08 Pictures Added!)
What a difference a day makes....
Wednesday July 16, 2008 Friday July 18, 2008 Saturday July 19, 2008 Can't believe how fast that happened. Am I going to have to start taking pictures twice a day? Aside from the obvious bananas, look at the still closed petal on the left, see the bit of green peaking out? More bananas! ![]() I'm going to add photos to this post every day so I can look back and see how it progressed. And my new camera should be in on Wednesday, so no more of the cell phone foolishness!! Added pictures from Sunday. The little green spot showing on Saturday opened all the way overnight to reveal the full second bunch of bananas!
How many should I expect to get out of this bloom? No signs of a third one yet. |

From what they tell me on this board, it's an Orinoco. Do you have pictures of yours?

I don't know how big your nana is but mine is leaning pretty bad already. Guess I'll have to stake it up so it doesn't snap.

I am going to keep an eye on it though and add support if necessary, I have some two by fours standing by. No added picture today as it looks exactly like it did yesterday. I do have a question though, what's the deal with the sticky stuff dripping all over the other leaves and my deck rail? An unexpected bonus is that the flowering bananas sure do smell good! |

That's the nectar coming from the flowers. Hummingbirds love it!

I bumped my flower when I was crawling on my back taking a picture the other day and it got on me and my clothes but washed off easily. It wasn't very sticky either, very watery. I have humming birds around here but they don't seem to have discovered the banana yet, they are busy with lantana and other flowers. I do see wasps and other insects hanging around, though.
