Watering new plants
 

I am currently waiting for my new banana plants - should I set them up with a shrub bubblier or will sprinkler be sufficient.

A lot of info is needed here to answer. Small nana plants need very little water and should be kept in a pot & out of direct sun light for the first month or so. Then slowly move into direct sun for short periods and increase.



What size are the plants? ... Also, this is late in the year to be setting out new young plants. Likely you need to kept them inside until next spring.

Thank you.. Here is the deal. I am putting these in at a beach house we own. We get there about four times a year. So it is put in the ground and hope for the best. So far it has work great for citrus - hoping for the same result for bananas.

Bubbler. More water in a shorter amount of time to the the root zone for drenching, less side/overspray, lower losses to evaporation and lower risk of clogging vs. a sprinkler.

Presently I have little directional spray type sprinklers at the edge of my pool patio that hit the strip of grass and my banana plants. They are okay for grass and flower beds but they don't put out enough water for the banana plants so when we have a dry stretch I water by hand using the hose. Not that big a deal as it rains a ton here and I'm mostly home but as the patch expands and the plants grow in size they require greater amounts of watering time during the dry stretches plus I do take some trips out of town (business or vacation) for a week or more so the plants are at risk during these times.
