Watering Dwarf Cavendish
I'm sure this has been discussed before but I couldn't find it. How often should I water my baby dwarf cavendish.

Re: Watering Dwarf Cavendish
It's about 4 inches or somewhere around there. I'm also in Texas.

Re: Watering Dwarf Cavendish
Hey MonkeyMan,
Fellow banana grower in Frisco here. Your question has no simple answer. That's kind of like asking how often and how much water should you drink? Are you exercising or sitting in an air conditioned room talking. A couple of general points: if your soil is like mine-black clay, it holds water for a long time. If you grow in a raised or an ammended bed, it may dry out faster than in clay. Add in wind (wind=faster water loss from the leaves) and don't get me started on TX heat in summer. If you're growing other plants around the banana, you may want to take your cue from what they need. On some really hot and/or windy days during summer, mine will wilt sometimes during the heat of the day, even though the soil is moist- the plants simply can't keep up with how much water the leaves lose durinv the day (over night they catch back up and start the next day looking great again). Bottom line? I think you're in for some trial and error. Good luck! Last edited by pniksch : 05-12-2014 at 05:56 PM. |

Re: Watering Dwarf Cavendish
best bet is to water as needed being careful not to overwater. overwatering can be a lot worse than underwatering

Re: Watering Dwarf Cavendish
Are you growing it in a pot or in the ground?

Re: Watering Dwarf Cavendish
Pot, but plan on moving into ground when older.

Re: Watering Dwarf Cavendish
In a pot just water well once the pot dries right out, then let the pot dry right out again. Keep it in the pot til it gets a bit bigger, then it'll be good to go.
