I have a bunch of beer that is past its prime. I know that its good to water grass with it, but will it be better than using water on the banana plants?

If you get them drunk, they might stumble and fall on you. That would not be a pretty sight.

We make our own beer and pour the must (stuff that's filtered out after fermenting) on the lawn. I've never really seen it have any affect. We also pour earthworm castings all over everywhere so it's already well fertilized.
Maybe I just don't see a difference because of the amount of other fertilizer it gets. Also I've never poured beer on my bananas. If it were ever to get close to getting old... Well, I guess I'd just have to throw a "We Have Surplus Beer" party. It's hard enough to keep a supply for our friends. I couldn't imagine brewing some for my plants. Although the most intelligent intoxicated conversations I've ever had were with my plants. Go figure. ![]()

I didn't rinse the bleach I used to sanitize the carboy well enough, hence bad beer. Its not drinkable unless you are 15 so I would hate to completely waste it. I guess after a while your bound to get lazy somewhere. We call the stuff left after fermenting trub.
I compost my spent grain and hops. Actually before I would just put the spent grain in the flower garden and the plants loved it but it attracted a lot of bugs so I started to compost it instead. |
