I got mine about 3 weeks ago or so. Katie has always got right back to me through email so if they aren't responding right away I'd guess they are out doing shows etc. I did send an email in the beginning of summer just to let them know of my coninued interest( not "where is it!" just a freindly "just to let you know I 'm still interested". This may have helped.

Hey y'all,

Could you fill me in on what this thread is about? I figure it is safe to assume viente cohol is a banana (but not on the wiki page), and someone named Katie has a list of those who want one.....

Russell

Hi Russell. There is a Banana by the name of Veinte Cohol as you assumed. It is a wonderful Banana that alot of people are trying to get a hold of. "Goingbananas.com" has them but they are on a waiting list. Use the search button and type in Veinte Cohol to learn more about them.

here is the orginal thread...I hope this works..

For all you that are just now getting yours, please keep us updated to how it does for you. I was TRULY disappointed in!!! It grew well for me last summer and I stored the main pstem which was about 5' in my garage overwinter. It looked great all winter and the pstem stayed nice and firm. Well, when I brought it out this spring, the thing collapsed on me and rotted out completely from the corm upward. I had separated a few pups from the mama last summer that were about 2' tall each and stored them in my friends greenhouse. Same thing happened to the pups with the exception of one that died to the corm and then started sending up a new pup only to have it die back when it was only about 3" tall.
I truly hope some of you have better luck than I did because, I too, was hoping for a short season banana for us further north.
I think Austin in LR Ark, had a similiar experience with his and hope he will see this and update us on what his did or didn't do... Best of luck to all of you with growing it and please keep us updated!!!!

My first Viente Cohol is not doing great either but still alive. I've transferred it a few times but it never did grew tall. So I've had it for a year now
and 2 months ago I transferred it to ground with protection and I planted it close to a lot of other bananas and other plants near it. It appears to be doing OK except that it is too soon to tell. It is now about 1 1/2 feet tall and 1" dia pstem. I ordered another one about 5 months ago for a friend but still I am waiting.

Hey, my friend. I had basically the same experience as Randy. I dug and stored my potted V.C. in the garage for the winter. I watered only a few times to keep the plant hydrated. Like Randy, my plant's pstem was so firm and nice all winter into the spring...until warm weather arrived. It then started to rot so I cut down the stem in half but the rotting continued down to the corm. There was no way to save it. :( I tried my best. Good luck with all of yours. I just wish this banana was the holy grail for northern gardeners, but with our experiences, it isn't. I've gone back to dwarf Orinoco since it stores so well and I have a decent chance of getting ripe fruit. I will remain V.C.-less!

Well, that's 2 strikes against it - or at least against trying to grow it in a pot and storing it. I bet it was expensive too.

Anyone have better luck in a banana friendly climate zone?

Russell, I grew mine out in the garden last summer until the end of August, dug it up and then potted it with a few pups in a 60 gallon nursery pot. Here it is at the end of July last summer:

Here it is after I potted it up and before it went into the garage:

Randy, I assume this is the one you lost - but I just can't believe it. Have you tried drenching with a fungicide like Subdue? Hasn't anyone grown this one outside and overwintered it?

Russell
