Re: Very Nice Looking Namwah Bunch !
I probably wont have any bunches on my namwahs
untill late next year and looking forward to it as well. I met this one person on HD that uses fish emulsion liquid fertilizer for her fruit trees. She says it sweetens out the flavor of the fruits. BTW, what exactly do you guys mean "the taste might not be the best"? Not better than Chiquita? |

Re: Very Nice Looking Namwah Bunch !
I know lots of members will disagree with me, to me it does not taste as good as a store bought properly riped cavendish.
My opinion only, Ed it's a great performer though ! |

Totally disagree with Ed. I doubt that fish emulsion increases the Brix score in fruits. I once read an article that potassium has a positive influence on it. At certain times I do use water soluable potassium for various reasons and it might have increased the Brix level as well, but unfortunately I do not own a refractometer to proof it. My theory is that if you give fruit plants more N than they need, new growth will consist of larger cells with thinner walls, therefore making them more susceptible to pests and diseases. The optimum fertilizer for bananas is a 2-1-3 ratio of N-P-K, so if the Brix level is still too low, it might be because there is too much N in the soil and Potassium might be needed.Of course other nutrients and minerals are important for a healthy plant as well, but the more efficiently the plant can take them up with water (or even better through foliar feeding), the healthier the plant will be and subsequently the brix level will increase. |

Re: Very Nice Looking Namwah Bunch !
As I mentioned; "the taste might not be the best but grow well every year"....
I have been growing Namwah for the last four years and it have been a good producer every year....taste?......if that the best you can grow (Namwah), that the best you can grow....ultimately, it depends of your limitations of which banana to grow based on your location....this is my personal opinion... [/b] An example, based in my location Zone (10-11, South Florida) I am growing right now, PR Verdin Banana, PR Morado Banana, etc. which I think will taste better than a Namwah.....other forums member will prefer them too.....I will let you guys know.... An updated of my third Namwah flowering!

CB Youre right again! After doing some reading, fish fertilizer basically adds protein/nitrogen in the soil which is the N in the NPK. TY |

Re: Very Nice Looking Namwah Bunch !
I had a bunch of Dwarf NamWah's a few months ago; have a another stalk blooming now. Mine were big and really fat.. very fruity tasting.. reminded me slightly of Juicy Fruit gum.. Also just picked my first bunch of Veinte Cohols. I bought the pup from a very reputable dealer; but mine were HUGE compared to all other photos I've seen of them. 7-8 inches and 2 inches across. Very strange texture.. "fluffy" is the only word I can come up with. The bunch weighed in excess of 60 lbs.. about 10 hands.. does anyone know if Veinte's ever get that big ? I am wondering if the dealer I bought it from got it mixed up somehow.. I'm not gonna give it back mind you.. but I just like to have the right names on my stands. Also picked a nice bunch of Pitgos ( very tasty ) and a reasonable bunch of Orinocco's.. bout 6 hands on them.. but the Orinnocos are huge.. about 7 inches and 2.5-3 or so across.. fat fat fat..
