Not sure. I am actually hoping for a Namwah instead of the "Ice cream" I bought. When the bloom is full, I will post it here :)

Wow! I am impressed! Really good job! Could you tell me how do you take care of your banana? I am growing my first one and I have problems with it:(

Thank you! I have it in full sun, and I water every other day. I am in zone 8b-9a. I was feeding every 3 weeks with a fruiting fertilizer, then when the bloom came, I switched to a powder mixed in water like miracle grow for blooming plants. It is high potassium. It has stayed real healthy since I bought it last year. I keep it sprayed with neem oil for bugs, and copper spray if needed for fungus. This is also my first banana.

Plants looks awesome - are they in an in-ground "pot" or is that just a grass barrier? What are the (planting area) dimensions?

Planted in the ground. The "box" was to keep grass out, and hold mulch. There is also fencing for winter. I am going to have to expand it and cut out 2 pups of pups this fall. I think the dimensions are around 3' by 4'

I cant really tell from the photo, but using your house a a reference im guessing your PSTEM is about 8 or 10ft? Im wondering if you have tall namwah or dwarf? Any idea how tall your PSTEM is? Thanks!

My guess is the fruiting p stem is 5 1\2 feet tall. Isn't dwarf namwa, too tall. [IMG][/IMG]

i respectfully disagree.. look at the third photo she posted most recently. I looks to me like the flower is around 5/6ft off the ground. If it is dwarf namwah, that fruiting stem will darn near reach the ground from that height. IMO, its too short to be a tall namwah.

Re: Very first banana bloom ever!

What if the flowering stem got cut\or was frozen back, taking several feet off the pstem? To me looks like the leaves are too far apart on the trunk, and it is too thin to be a dwarf. Just a guess :) ;)

Yea, that is good point. I was thinking it was a first year plant, but she did say she planted it last spring.

The Pstem is only 6ft. The mother was off to a bad start after winter, so the pups are bigger from last year. It grew into.my plastic winter cover, and bent over, so I had to cut to the healthy part. I am pretty sure it's a Namwah, just not sure if it's a dwarf of tall one. I bought it as an ice cream.
