Banana Starters Arrived - It Begins!
The 2 Veinte Cohol pups I ordered from Etsy finally arrived. I think it took a full week from when I ordered. As far as I can tell, they look to be VCs (I compared looks and leaves to those of Banana Man Larry's VCs on his site). They arrived in exceptional condition, and oddly, began transpiring at the tips after I opened the package up (plants are cool-sorry I've never ordered plants so dunno if they just do this from shipping).
I will get these potted and hopefully have some good updates in a couple of months. I'm not too convinced to plant in-ground this year. I dug a hole for my Tropic Snow Peachtree and tested drainage. It is now on day 2 with almost no drainage, so I spread 80 pounds of gypsum on my land to hopefully assist with this (I know there's speculation on using gypsum, but rest assured I am within this exception https://s3.wp.wsu.edu/uploads/sites/.../03/gypsum.pdf "With the exception of arid and coastal regions (where soil salts are high) and the southeastern United States (where heavy clay soils are common), gypsum amendment is just not necessary in non-agricultural areas.") QCTropics on youtube has given me hope in fixing the drainage. Once I get that in check I'll be planting in-ground. Hopefully, that issue can be resolved in a year's time frame.. especially since I also have 2 kokopo from Larry, and a russian pomegranate tree, white lady Peachtree, and some blueberries on the way from Perfect Plants Nursery. So this should be exciting. :08: |

Before you plant them in the ground amend that soil as much as you can this year so you have a great foundation to start with. I hope they do well for you. |

Re: Veinte Cohol Pups Arrived - It Begins!
VCs have been potted (done yesterday don't worry lol) and are sitting in my SW facing window, it gets probably 6 to 8 hours of light there.
How long would you keep them indoors before taking them outside? The instructions said to keep them indoors upon arrival for a few days to a week. Seems long to me. Regardless, I'm keeping them potted this season. Hoping they keep me busy with transplanting to larger pots every month or so. |

2 kokopo starters from bananatreesforsale just arrived!

Re: Veinte Cohol Pups Arrived - It Begins!
Little update on the plants, they are still adjusting to outdoor life it seems as their growth has been pretty slow. The kokopo arrived in alright condition. The one that arrived with damaged leaves is really taking a while to settle in. On top of that, I set them outside in a shaded area that gets maybe one hour of morning sun right when they arrived and traveled for a few days from work. During those days, temps went down to around 36 degrees Fahrenheit for an hour or so and were in the mid 40s during the day. Needless to say, none of the bananas enjoyed that but they did survive.

Re: Veinte Cohol Pups Arrived - It Begins!
Also transplanted all of the pups into larger pots a few days ago as the weather is starting to stay above the high 50s low 60s (Fahrenheit) here in SE NC.

Re: Veinte Cohol Pups Arrived - It Begins!
I also ordered a Veinte Cohol pup that should be arriving soon. Very excited for the prospective "Tropical Flavored Banana".
I'm interested to see the potential growth from your plants, and if you're interested I can also post the growth of mine when I receive them in this thread aswell! Anyway, I hope it works out best for you, I have to get back to work! :2738: |

Very excited as per my research the Mysore is the "Pisang Kalang", and that is supposed to be the "strawberry shortcake" tasting banana. As the Kokopo should be a slightly less, but still tropical, orange fleshed banana. |

Is the site really slow for anyone else? Taking minutes for pages to load and can't upload pix.

I think it might be targeted due to its simple domain name. Imagine how much someone would pay for "bananas.org" Could be a large corporation wants this domain, so they're using underhanded means to deter activity on the site. Either bots using this to send phishing links because this domain is easy to find, or its a large corp ddos-ing and sending bots to ruin the user experience. We just want to enjoy bananas. -.-' |

Kokopo is hardly hanging in. (its doing well, just doesn't like the humid heat down here) Wilty leaves, but doing okay. Slow to grow leaves. Do you recommend watering every day? I know that these young ones need special care, and I don't want to kill them from water. And it's difficult to kill them from drought if you're watching them, which I am. These turning out to be a DC would be my worst nightmare. You can get cavendish in the store, absolute waste not to grow an exotic variety if you have the ability to. Also think of the value of the exotic bananas in an apocalyptic scenario. Rare fruits would definitely be valuable if SHTF and there isn't regular trade overseas or food being imported in anymore. |

I know I'd pretty dissapointed if they were just cavendish. We will see! |

Re: Veinte Cohol Pups Arrived - It Begins!
shrek is right that "Alot of Bananas look similar when they are young.", so instead of wasting time focusing on the similarities just look for the differences. Your Kokopo appear exactly like they should at that age and the Veinte Cohol do not, so they are not vc. I haven't spoken with the tc lab recently but they said they were having difficulties with their tc vc and I thought it was discontinued.
If you really want a VC try posting in the 'Banana Wanted' section on the forum. |

Vendors that sell the Fake Blue Java Ice Cream TC have plausible deniability because they purchased the TC's as Blue Java even though they probably know they're not. The interesting thing is that once the moderator started selling Real Blue Java Ice Cream pups instead of the Fake TC's they went back and deleted their thread selling the Fake Blue Java TC's. |
Re: Veinte Cohol Pups Arrived - It Begins!

Re: Veinte Cohol Pups Arrived - It Begins!
Well mine veinte cohol from same etsy seller is looking just like a cavendish mine is growing fast what i did was i used a small pot just alittle bigger than the root ball and i up potted it as it grew.I kept it at my desk under grow light during the day.Reason i use small pot is because it helps plant grow faster and a large pot with so much soil retards growth and retains too much water not good for plant in mine experience. Also i make sure to only add small amounts of water as needed but never soak it.

I messaged the seller from the link i posted a few posts ago and this was their reply "Thank you for your email.* This Banana plant comes from a reliable source but it is not one that comes from our own farm.* We do guarantee true to type so you can keep us updated." |

Would you recommend watering every day for these small guys? I really don't want to kill them by rotting out their roots by over watering. |

The Pink Velvet (Musa velutina) is somehow flowering. It's only about 1 ft tall. No shot it can support inflorescence right?
