![]() I sprouted some Musa Cheesmanii that appeared to be Variegated with crinkley leaves, but now they are more plain green as winter has set in. I also got a couple small variegated Musa basjoos that also have crinkley leaves. Will they grow out of this, or are some varigates always crinkley?
Thanks, Kyle |

![]() I've had this happen too. Seems like it's some kind of stress, and not variegation for me. It has happened to cheesmani, flaviflora, and balbisiana. Some have "grown it off" and are, as you say, plain green now. Do you have any photos?
Erlend

![]() Can't speak for Musa, but I have a variegated Ensete that does that. It is over two years old, and most of the leaves are slightly deformed and it doesn't grow well at all. The variegation gets burnt really easy also. Bummer.

![]() I bought the Basjoo from a guy who gets them from a TC company, and the basjoos are varigated and crinkley.
I guess not all varigates are crinkley? I'm a little bummed too. |

Erlend[/QUOTE Sorry no photos(I'm not really online yet), but I have heard that some Musa lose their varigation in the winter. I have also heard that some genus' have species that come varigated from seed, so maybe there is a musa species that will also do that. |

![]() I received a couple of basjoo in the spring with my order that were "variegated" just thrown in with the others. The tc company didn't even notice. But they were crinkly like that, and now they have totally outgrown it, and are totally green. Can't tell that they even ever had it.
So from my experience, crinkly isn't a good sign that the variegation will hold and keep appearing.

![]() I bought 3 variegated Musa basjoo's, and one variegated Musa ornata for $50 dollars apeice this spring. The pics showed nice variegated leaves on 3 gallon plants, however when the plants showed up all three basjoos had a serious crinkley leaf problem, and they didn't lose the crinkel leaf or the varigation all summer. The 2 survivors looked so ugly that I was going to put them in the compost pile, but someone came over and said they'd take them and cut the stems back and hope some regular pups come up.
BEWARE of the crinkely leaf varigate sold online, and ask to make sure there are no mutation problems. People are going through the TC greenhouses and picking up mutants and selling them, no matter how ugly they actually end up being. Lesson learned here! |
