Thanks to what I've learned from PR-Giants and my own experiment found here -> Check out this Truly Tiny growth node
Here's my latest venture

I wanted to give 1 of my 2 Florida's to my mother and also wanted to revamp the planting location so this was the perfect opportunity to dig them up completely, clean and inspect the rhizomes and remove any growth nodes.

To my amazement there were way more than I expected.





The biggest one was the size of a tennis ball so can that even be considered just a node anymore?



Here's a 7th one and the smallest one I removed. Similar size to the Truly Tiny node in my other thread. Big root still attached too.



Both rhizomes had plenty of growth nodes left but I left them on due to not having a distinguishable bulb yet.



After I removed the nodes. Big rhizomes too... super happy

Just over 2 weeks ago I carefully removed a growth node while it was still in the ground. It had no roots. This is it now.



My Florida in its new raised bed home. Fresh compost.
Going to add dedicated shade nets soon.

They all should given enough time and care, at least I hope but I'm very confident.
My original Florida rhizome took an entire month to sprout and start growing.

However as I showed, I had already removed a node just under 3 weeks ago and it only took 2 weeks to sprout.
I'm fairly certain you can actually see in picture #5 where it was cut.
The only reason I knew it was there was because it poked out of the soil but never grew, possibly due to the heat, so I carefully dug and removed it.

That node didn't even have a single root on it... I wasn't even sure if it would work or how long it would take. I'm blown away at the result.

This is that same plant today 3 days later.

Good and Bad news

I accidentally killed the mother plant/corm I kept for myself.
The compost I used was very fresh and literally steaming... I think it was too much
The plant had not been doing well so I dug it up today and the corm was completely rotting away... Lesson learned
The plant literally 'fell off' the corm which rotted away so I cut it down to the base and will see if I can salvage it but I highly doubt it.

The good news is the second plant I gave to my mother is doing just fine (so it was definitely my fault)
and 4 of my pups are growing so far so at least I can start over.
The others shouldn't be far behind

Yeah it's funny how that works.

It always seems like the International Banana Society is a half decade behind the rest of the world on banana related topics. It's probably because the pseudo experts here that post a lot have a strong opinion but have little or no experience.

Look how long it took variegated banana seedlings to become accepted here. The first year I was giving them away on eBay for free if the buyer paid for the shipping.

Variegated Synthetic Hybrid Bananas

After that it was the hybrid seeds from the Blue Java which the pseudo experts here insisted can't produce seeds. Then they moved to OK they can produce seeds but the seeds won't germinate.

What's next? OK the seeds do germinate but the fruit won't be edible or if it is edible it won't taste good.

An opinion formed from little or no experience has little or no value.

I've already moved on to producing new varieties of variegated seedlings using the A'ea'e as the mother plant which according to these same pseudo experts can't produce seeds either.

yes, and i am one of them. but the DEDICATED experts here are few. and getting fewer. you get a gold star. the speudo esperts [like me] keep this place going. otherwise this place would be a ghost town/forum. but then how many times do you want to answer to the question? [why do my leaves look like this, on a plant in pot, 1ft. tall]

i always loved your posts of what i call ghost bananas. seems to me you were accused of photo shopping more than once. among other things.

I added compost to all of my banana mats earlier this season and was surprised to wind up with fertilizer burn! They all survived but you can still see the burns on some of the older leaves

One day I will get a Florida! Yours are looking good and healthy. PR whatever happen to your hybrid synthetic bananas you bred? Any updates you could post up?
