Friends of mine were quite taken with ty ty's webwsite and made two road trips trips from Tallahassee to buy plants directly from the nursery. All the plants died.
I am steering clear of ty ty. It would be helpful to know which nurseries are reliable and which are not, but if there is someplace at bananas.org where people are sharing this information I haven't found it yet. I have bought 5 banana plants from Just Fruits and Exotics near Crawfordville, Florida (JustFruitsandExotics.com) and all are healthy and doing well. The prices they list online include shipping costs; buying onsite is considerably cheaper. |

Ty Ty has set the standard for the most unethical Nursery on the web. They were on the garden watchdog but they threatened to sue Daves Garden so it was taken down.
A and B tropicals is good, and people also say going bananas is also, but there seems to be new ones popping up all the time. |

Ty Ty is good for a laugh though: Check out all the models standing near the plants in most of their pics. I'd rather see a decent picture of the plant I want to buy, rather than some person who looks better suited to a Sears catalog!

I tried buying some Colocasias from Tyty... took them 3 months and about 6 phone calls to Georgia before they finally shipped stuff that wasn't what I ordered.

I looked at Ty Ty's website when I was shopping for bananas this spring. I didn't realize they actually sold plants. I just thought it was a garden where all the pretty people hang out. Never did buy from them. Site was so cheesey!

Years ago, in October, I had a large number of healthy pups - too many to keep. I talked to a nursery owner to see if he would be interested in the pups. He came over with another grower and between the two they bought all 20 of my pups. Most of the pups were as good or better then the Ty Ty plants. The next spring I ask one of the growers if the Ae Ae were starting to grow. He said all of the plants died in the middle of winter. Realize these were professionals in south Florida. No one should move or buy an Ae Ae in cool or cold weather. If Ty Ty doesn't sell them soon they will all be dead. I am sure that you will not see healthy 5 footers on their site come July.
