Re: Valor_X & Backyard Banana Joe - Who can fruit a Praying Hands pup first?
My Praying Hands is a beast...
It's now about ~13-14ft tall and nearly caught up to my Orinocos only a foot taller at ~14-15ft Check out the size of that massive cigar coming out, and it still has some more to go. The last leaf looks like a 7 footer. 6ft fence for scale. The 1st pup it had is a monster now too, at least 10ft. Some of these pics look like just leaves now... I love my little jungle How's your bunch coming along BBJ?

Your Praying Hands looks great! Those leaves coming out are regular surfboards! The bunch is filling in slowly, so maybe two more months. |

Re: Valor_X & Backyard Banana Joe - Who can fruit a Praying Hands pup first?
Terrible luck
Got hit with another stupid Texas Winter Storm... (though not as bad as last year) It's a real shame too... My P-hands was putting out a huge flower At least the P-stems all look fine so the pups should continue growing I don't see how I'll get anything from the mother plant with no leaves though

Re: Valor_X & Backyard Banana Joe - Who can fruit a Praying Hands pup first?
Yeah it sucks, it's hit or miss living in my zone
On the bright side the pup on the right is almost as big as the mother plant already Hopefully I can still get some bananas this year before next winter

Re: Valor_X & Backyard Banana Joe - Who can fruit a Praying Hands pup first?
That's a heartbreaker.
Now you an good idea how long it takes to go from pup to flower in your area based on your fertilizer schedule, rainfall, etc. and can adjust the timing of when the pup should appear. Plus a little luck with winter always helps and it will happen! |

Wow, that cold front really did a number and the plants were so close.
You're right it is hit or miss for that area |

Re: Valor_X & Backyard Banana Joe - Who can fruit a Praying Hands pup first?
Valor_X, that's horrible. Really stinks it had to flower right now. That large sucker is looking good, hopefully it will flower mid-summer. My bunch ripened and were pretty good! You definitely have something to look forward to. I know you've been looking forward to it for longer than your fair share though.
Give her what she needs and it'll explode this year! |
