Morning Hector!

What is your watering policy/routine for your plants potted up in the course sand? How often and how deep do you water them in hot summer and cool winter?

I have very little experience with potted plants Recently I re-potted a few plants with course sand from HD but not sure about watering. I also placed the plants out in the patch under the canopy where they get partial sunlight but am worried the black plastic pots might get too hot.

Thanks for any help or advice.

my name is not hector but I am better looking.

I do have allot of background with silica sands. you do have to be very careful with water them because they can hold a bunch of water for a very long time till you get about the half of a size of a pea. and still will hold water with allot of fines.....take a pot, put a bit of bed sheet in the bottom fill it with your sand and water. then in a couple of days dump it out and you will see what I mean.

Thank you Beam for providing information about the qualities and characteristics of coarse sand.

Do you have a watering protocol or policy with coarse sand based on your experience for plants outside in pots i.e. watering approximately every three days during the summer triggered by ______ , watering after physical examination of the soil approximately every week, etc.

My experience to date is with outdoor field planted plants in adequately draining soil with high organic matter content covered by mulch. In my area and with my local climate and conditions I water about every two days if it hasn't rained for three days or so. I physically check the soil to see if it is moist at a depth of four inches or so.

Based on all the great photos of Hector's potted plants on this thread I'm trying to tease out his secret! Haha.

Donald,

*****I used pool filter silica coarse sand with perlite mix as medium for Nanas in pots*****

If the Nana plant that have been re-potted or transplanted has roots, then I water them every 2-3 days!.....
If the Nana plant or corm doesn't have any roots. I water them every 6 to 7 days until they grow roots (rooting)!....

Most of the time, I placed any corm or a Nana plant without any roots at my house balcony, out of the rain water, until they grow roots, then, as you, I move them under the bigger Nanas (canopy) where they get partial sunlight....To get them hardy enough, acclimatize, at least for 2 weeks, before transplanting them to the ground!.....

Tease out my secret!.......shhhhhhhh!......LOL!.....

Hopefully it helps!......

well the people you know probably apt to like you but with the air in Miami and people are dumping chemicals in the ground all over, gasoline oil. and since I am retired and probably next to dead any way I would like to ensure that you and yours are safe.
