So I would say the Tu'u Ghia is a solid zone 10 or 11 banana plant. Worst than a Gros Michel. ... Oh well may be you can send me a sample if you get fruit. I'm sure you can/will rub it in on the forum. ... hahaha .. Good Luck and keep it warm.

HMelendez do I understand correctly that you sterilize the planting hole itself with bleach? Is it due to special conditions i.e. known and aggressive local nematode problem, bugs, etc.?

I'm familiar with cleaning pup corn/roots with bleach but first time I have read someone applying it to the hole.

Thanks!

I always have been using bleach to sterilize the corm and/or the transplanting hole, then let it dry for a couple of hours before transplanting the Nana plant as a *****preventive measurement!*****It is a reality that we got corm weevils, nematodes, etc. all over Florida!...

Also, *****as another preventive measurement, *****I always use clean coarse sand in all my Nanas or any type of "soilless mix" (sphagnum peat moss, rice hulls, pool silica coarse sand, perlite, etc.).....Plus it helps tremendously for......(Keyword)......AERATION!.........

Hopefully it helps!

Hector

Haha ... Seems like a little over a year ago I stated to use diluted bleach to clean corms and I shocked most every one (those that replied anyway). thought I was about to be Banned on the forum from the comments. ... So now about everybody is using bleach on their corms and those that were doing it have come out about it. ... Bleach will break down in a short while to chlorine gas, chloride, and water after it kills the little bugs. Years ago, I used bleach in my bath water to get rid of Red Bugs (aka: chiggers). Gone like instantly and no scratching for days like I've seen others have. OH, damn good for athlete foot too! I haven't had either or done it again in years since.

I wouldn’t touch a corm that hasn’t touched bleach! About 1:4 diluted. I go through a lot!

I hope all goes well with it... As far as taste goes, I have not tried it but would put Paggi up against just about any musa for flavor... Now you need to get that one grounded so you can do a side by side with this one... and let us all know, of course.
TY...1:4? I usually go with a half cup in a couple gallons and it seems to burn the roots. I am scared to go stronger. (I swish em around in there for a couple minutes, though)

Varieties I supposedly bought: Manzano, Cavendish, Blue Java, Sweetheart, and Gros Michel.
What it seems I actually have: Brazilian, Cavendish, Namwah, Dwarf Red, Gros Michel, Pisang Ceylon, Veinte Cohol and SH 3640, and American Goldfinger. FHIA 1, Paggi and FHIA 17... Always room for one more.
