My Vunamami is about a foot tall now! Growing great! I will try to put a pic of it on my Flickr. Nick is a master at TCing plants! Anytime he offers any for sale, get them!! I’m hoping I can continue to keep my Vun alive! I’m excited to see how it does! I have heard bad results from many guys growing it and how hard it is to grow. It is for sure different!

Amazing job my bro! Amazing French Red! You know it’s one of my favorites!!!
Keep up the good work!

Thank you my bro!....Hopefully we can keep Musa Vunamami alive and growing good and nicely for us!....Definitely Musa Vunamami is in a different league than most Nana Varieties!.....

As you mentioned, Nick is a Nana expert, with a lot of TCing plants experience!....Awesome guy!....

Your favorite, "Frenchie" (French Red Plantain), suddenly, took off growing!....Thanks to all that banana nectar (rain) from the last couple of months!.......French Red it's approx. 9 ft. tall and keeps growing nicely!.....French Red and another monster plantain, the FHIA-21, should be flowering, blooming soon!.......Monster plantain bunches are coming!....

What's the difference between pool silica sand and the white sugar sand thats all over S. Florida's coasts? My sister has a house in W. Palm Beach and her backyard seems like its primarily composed of what people from around here would call "beach sand".

Also I was instructed that banana plants favor soil that is high in organic matter and amended my soil accordingly. Obviously you are a successful grower and your technique works but how to reconcile?

Thanks!

Donald,

From post #193 of the thread......."That is pool filter silica coarse sand!......The soilless medium that I used for Nanas in pots or in the ground!....Has a bigger grit than normal/regular sand!....Keywords DRAINAGE and AERATION!".......

Very simple!.....I frequently keep amending/adding nutrients to the top soil of my Nana mats!.....Biochar (crushed wood charcoal), coffee grounds, egg shells, vegetable/fruits peelings, Nana leaves or pieces from prior harvested Nanas, etc.....

I first tried pool filter silica coarse sand with the Beautiful, Royal and Majestic AEAE and it did worked!......Trust me, AEAE is one of the toughest Nana Varieties to grow and see it flowering, blooming!.......If it works for the AEAE, it should work for most Nana Varieties!......Right now, I'm using pool filter silica coarse sand with all my Nanas!.....http://www.bananas.org/f2/beautiful-...ing-47512.html

Yeehaaa!.....I harvested my first FHIA-3 Sweetheart monster bunch in 09/30/2018....FHIA-3 Sweetheart bunch weighted approx. in the 80 to 90 pounds!.....

FHIA-3 Sweetheart taste wise is more creamier and sweet comparing to Cavendish!....Cavendish being more firmer/sweet, Sweetheart being creamier/sweet!.....For me, definitely a keeper!.....

Picture from 09/30/2018.....

FHIA-3 Sweetheart second crop/generation approx. 9 ft. tall already!....It's remarkable how fast the FHIA-3 Sweetheart grows!....Amazing!....

Picture from 10/03/2018....

Paggi (GM Subgroup) keeps growing nicely!......I can't wait to taste Paggi!....

Picture from 10/01/2018.....

Another stellar!.....PR Verdin (Red Subgroup) is flowering!.....As the PR Morado, PR Verdin is approx. 16 to 18 ft. tall at flowering!.....One of my favorites!.....

Picture of the flowering PR Verdin next to her blooming relative, the PR Morado, both of them in the Red Subgroup Nana Varieties!....

Hector

Extraordinary growth you have there, are you going to put them in a larger pot or keep them like they are for the mean time.

You can start to see the beautiful bronze/burgundy underside of the leaves of Musa Ula'ula Iholena.:nanadrink:
