Default UPDATE 2020 Season of my Nana Patches

I trimmed the small nana patch this morning to get ready for the 2020 season ... AND found a supersize bloom. Anyway these pics show how the plant died back after the Jan. 21 & 22 freeze to 27 deg. All the growing leaves froze and the few bunches that were growing.

Yes, that is new flag leaf & bud. The bud is within the past week & half. The Flag is since the Jan 22nd freeze. So if there is no late freeze it will be interesting to see this bunch grow.

This is what was left after trimming the dead leaves and pstems back. I cut a few pstem in Jan. before the last freeze and that is why there is a few green leaves showing now.

I'll get pics of the Big Patch a little later. These just show where I'm starting from for the 2020 season.

Yea, just 2 nights of 27 deg temps did them in. ... This winter hasn't been severe, so I don't believe I've lost any plants. ... I think we'll see a big difference in 7 to 10 days. ... Oh, if anyone is interested, I cut the pstems to remove the upper frozen, mushy portion. This help to keep the plant a little shorter and gives more support for the new growth on the pstem. 2 plants in the pics I didn't cut as I believe they are about to bloom, another 1000 finger (tall one) and a shorter Rajapuri (raggie looking top). ... The cutting waste was put around the bottom of the plants for mulch and these are pure fertilizer ready for use by the plant.

yesterday was beautiful wasn't it. thot I might go naked out in the yard but it pisses me off when I can hear the laughter over the boom boxes. and one young punk once hollered HEY FAT LADY. don't ya think that was a dentrimint to my physiology.

sorry on your loss max, I have been watching a number of them that should be close to flowering. manly dw Brazilian and raja puri. I have been waiting to fertilize so I wont push them, believe I will wait until the end of feb. I have a few plants I planted last year that are doing fantastic. a cardaba that the p-stem is still green and the dw maoli that is putting out huge leaves and the monthan whitch recovers really fast after a cold snap.

2 more cold snaps are forecasted here for February and knock on my forehead 2 more easy weeks in march.

I was just checking the weather again and found that all the Weather men & girls are taking the day off because they have nothing to do. All inclement weather has been canceled for the US tomorrow. ref: https://www.wunderground.com/article..._ven=hp-slot-3

Can a plant support a bunch of Bananas if it looses all its leaves?

Suppose to be 38F and 39F over the next two nights in my area. Hopefully that's the end of it. Just about every plant in my patch has one or two green leaves but the weak, sickly kind. I have two nice size Raja Puri's that made it through the winter and hoping they don't get jammed up as they tend to do. Starting my fertilizer program next week and planting my tomato plants this weekend.

We've had a couple of members on the forum that got a decent bunch (few hands) thought the winter using poly tents and plastic bags over the bunch and the plant only had only 1 or 2 leaves. ... But this tends to be a lot of trouble when one has about 100 nana plants growing thought the year. My Orinoco bunch I'll cut it back to may be to 3 hands when things start growing better to see how it does.

So what if it throws a flower, then you loose all the leaves to a frost? Will the plant support more growth of the flower and fruit without leaves?

That's what others seem to have done. We'll see as my plant only has the flag leaf remaining if the frost doesn't kill it this week.

They weren't filled enough. You can still see the end is pointy. Yes I could have ripened them in the house but the center core would still been hard. ... Besides I had plenty Nanas already and still eating nana chips.

tonight is not over yet. it's 12:30 am and 38 degrees, just finished putting the last coat of beeswax on a hawkin rifle and am going to put some more rust on the barrel. no rest for the nasty people..... ]…]…]…]

I have not got Orinoco yet. what I want to do is get the Orinoco that I had over 30 years ago, just have not done it yet. I have permission. but I have at least 5 that can compete, sorta, with Orinoco. 3 unidentified.

couple more weeks of march my friend.

may your banana fields burn before you get there.
