It's a sad day , Paul Spracklin has decided to remove UKOasis from the web after many years of Sterling service to the Exotic Gardening revolution in the UK and Europe , not to mention the valuble input from the US members and the Oz , NZ core . There are many reasons UKOasis is no more , I'll not go into them. UKOasis members were the greatest help when I started into Exotic gardening in my garden near Paris France , I could not have done it without them , as I could not have had a new start here without Bananas.org members . I have contact emails and phone numbers for the UKOasis members that became good garden friends over the years and I'l be intouch for sure.
My only hope is that some of the best of the UKOasis members will restart another quality site. So , many thanks to all past and present and best of luck for your future. All the Best Steve

Steve, that is indeed very sad, i was a member there myself but had only
2 posts and not about bananas. I have seen some trouble with a member a few months ago but that surely will not be the only reason. It was a great board with real experts about palms, yuccas, bananas and so on. I learned alot. A big thanks goes to Paul Spracklin and the moderators for the work they did in the past. Ron |

Thanks Mark for the link , I think I'll hangout here and get back to posting on Bamboo.web too . I had a look in at hardytropicals but it's not for me at the moment. I'll keep up with the old members I visit and trade with like Paul , Peter , James Knock , Andrew in Holland , Markj and Jonathan Poston . Plus the new people I have got to know in the last 18 months or so , like Sue in Ireland, Conrad , Helen tropical Pete , ChrisB and yourself .
Thanks again Steve

Hopefully a new ukoasis can rise out of the ashes of the old, and perhaps even go back to it's original intent. Maybe hardytropicals can be the more 'chatty' site and live alongside.

Hi Helen , what I liked about UKOasis was the level of knowledge and the concentration on plants , experiments and global plant input. The bit that put a lot of old members off was the chatty stuff and the bun fights because of the chatty stuff . There is a need for a high level board so one will emerge.
This board is the kind of high level that is needed and also Bambooweb . When you have dedicated plant nuts talking plants you attract even higher level plant nuts talking plants and then it gets really interesting and the the learning curve can only go up , when you start chatting it becomes a chatroom and the only direction is down. I like chatting to people about all kinds of stuff but not online. Online I do plants because the more I learn the better I get at looking after living things . I also have made some firm friends online through the plant talk , they have become people I value highly and visit as often as I can given our global lifestyle. Three of these people are World class experts in there areas of interest, Paul Spracklin , Mark Buckley and James Knock . I love learning more than teaching and boy these guys have given me hours of learning experience over the years. In the last cople of years I've learned a great deal from the specalist boards which have a more indepth look at plants I'm into , like the Musa boys and girls here or the true Bamboo Nerds like myself at Bambooweb. I guess in the end if the knowledge is needed and the will is there ,on the web it will be found . I just don't do chat online , phone sure ,anytime. Thanks Later Steve

Agreed. I joined this site and Bambooweb after spending most of this year on Gardenweb. The help I have recieved from these two sites has been a blessing. I'm not knocking Gardenweb, I still go there frequently. It's just that these forums seem more tight knit. Is there a forum of this quality for palms? |
